View Full Version : Nail in Tire

Hi! I'm seeking some advice from you experts. One of my rear tires (non-RF's) got punctured by a nail. Usually when this happens, I just take it to the shop and they patch it up and I'm back on my way. I took it to the BMW dealership this time, and they told me the tire could not be saved. The good news is that my tire insurance will pay for one new replacement. My question is this: is it ok to just replace the one (damaged) tire with a new one? Or, is it required that I replace both the two rear tires as a pair? Should I insist that the tire insurance replace both rears; in your experience, will they? These are the original Contis on the 530i I'm referring to, and I have about 12,000 miles on the original set that is still on.

Thank you so much once again for your help!

cheers,
suntan

If the other tires have at least 6/32nds of tread depth remaining, you could try to replace just one. If you get any pulling or other issues, you can always replace the other rear tire later.

P.S. Incidentally, I'd purchased a winter package from you guys last year. First rate service! I love your company!
