I recently bought a used 2000 M roadster. As I have been doing things to it like changing the oil, trans and differential fluid I noticed the bottom of the car was really dirty. Not just dirt but black. At first I thought it might be oil, but it was heaviest along the rocker panels and frame, and at the rear of the car on the mufflers. After reading numerous post I have realized it is brake dust.

So want kind of cleaner can I use that will take off years of brake dust and not damage the paint?

TIA.

I would imagine a good alkaline based wheel cleaner and a soft wheel brush.

Simple Green should work good. I used that and even steam cleaned the underside of my Z-3.
