I am signed up for the 16th at Noon. The times are not hard and fast, I have not had any before really check my sign in time. I just want make sure I get plenty of track time. :D

I think Mazda is going cheap on us, never seen this before at any other manufacturer's event.

Please be advised that this is an outdoor event. Please dress accordingly. Also, we will be selling food at the event this year, so bring your appetite!

WTF!!!:tsk:

Where are all the Houstonian B'Festers? :dunno: Last count they are over 30. They need to come out of their caves once in a while and play. :D

I'm in for early Saturday, 830 I think. Had to pay for this event two years ago, at least it's free this time. Their "food for sale" wasn't anywhere near the free stuff you get from BMW then either.

Crap - this Austinite can't make it! Last week was my anniversary and I was sick w/bronchitis...so we are celebrating on Saturday. If I even mention that I want to go to a car event this will be my LAST anniversary :D

If they are giving away any free cars, please grab one for me!!!

Yo Dave, I'll be looking for you tomorrow. I did this two years ago and it was more self-serve thant the BMW events. There were three short "skills" type courses, one longer autocross course with the featured car, and another test course with the full Mazda line. Figure an hour or hour and a half to do them all a couple of times.

Our plan is to leave around 8:15, maybe pickup some breakfast on the way. Figure we'll be there around 11:15-12PM. LDV, are we all going to meet up when we get there? We'll give you a call when we're nearby. If you're already there, maybe we can find a spot. That goes for any of you other Houstonites as well.

Sounds like Afshawnt might sell out too. "too much word".... whatever that means :-)

Like to meet up with new and old TXs again, but I'm only going to be there between 8:15 and 10:00 am and get as many laps as I can. I remember the event in SoCa. You are allowed two runs, and they post the best 10 times on the board. I'll be wearing a Texan tee-shirt, and handing out the bimmerfest sticker to those who wants one or two.

xSpeedy, LDV330i and I, went together to this event today. We had an absolutely awesome time. This is the first driving event I've seen that had cars with manual transmissions. And not just one or two - but the entire lineup. There were more manuals than Autos.

After about 2:30 many people started clearning out, which meant hardly any wait time on driving the good cars. We must have done dozens of laps in the Mx-5 Miata and the RX-8. At the end of the day we went back to the timed Mazdaspeed challenge with the Mazdaspeed 6s. We were consistently pulling in times in the low 32's to upper 31s. I even pulled off a 31.3 at one point. What kinds of times did the rest of you see on this course?

Anyway I was a little disappointed with the handling of the Mazdaspeed6. I was hoping for better results, but it's still a predominantly front drive car, even though it's AWD.

LDV, do you have the pics/videos? Maybe you can email them to me?

I knew you guys missed me. :D
I was there early and met up with mtbscott. We talked about his looking for a new Cayman more than anything else. I just went through the motion of driving the speed6 with times 33 and 34 sec, and the other cars. Not too good. The auto 33 sec was not the car for that tight course. My wet shoes slipped on the metal clutch pedal so the slower time of 34 sec for the manual. None of the cars, even the RX-8 really interested me as much as my current E46 330i. I left at around 9:40 am for other things I had to do. My next car will be a toss up between the E90 M3 or the Cayman S.

Hey Dave,

Yeah I wish you two had hung around a while longer. We didn't get there until noon. I've met mtbscott before, but never had the pleasure of meeting you (even though i've been reading your off-topic posts for years now lol). Don't worry, our first laps (when we had to wait 40 mintues), were around 34 seconds. It was only after a day of driving that we really had figured out the tricks to driving.

None of us really had an interest in the Mazda cars taht much - but it sure was fun flogging the heck out of someone else's cars. They were really cool here - even if you crashed into a cone or two or 50. AFter a while we got slap happy and were really pushign the cars limits - forgetting racing lines at times, and just trying to get some nice drifting action. Then we'd go back to hunting for good lap times. The Miatas were the perfect cars for this sort of driving. I wish I could try the E46 on these types of courses - but I don't want to do to my own car, what we did to those Mazdas hehehehe.

Well I was there with some females and all I have to say is ... I wish I when with the guys.. the girls couldn't handle the heat... and the waiting for the Mazda 6.. I was able to go around only once with the 6.. and pull a mid 34... I would go for the 2nd round but the line was a bit long in the morning and it was getting kinda warm..

on the CX-7 course.. how many apex did you guys able to get.. I only hit 5 on that course.. damn it.. but the rx-8 was totally fun.. and yea.. this is the 1st event we get to have manual.. that was kool..

you guys luck out .. it was good we all sign up for the sat event.. cuz today., sunday is raining bad before 10am.. hehe..

I still wish I had more rounds at the 6 course.. oh well..

next event.. BMW next week..

Well as has been posted earlier, we had a great time specially after all the crowds left around 3 PM ( I guess they all went next to door to the UT/Rice game). With no lines left we had a great time killing the MazdaSpeed6 can and by the end of the day we (me exclude because I did it in the second run :bigpimp: ) had managed to do better than the time to beat.

The MazdaSpeed6 clutch was a piece of crap. It engaged immediately shortly after releasing leading to people stalling the car, myself included. :(

We all left around 5 PM tired, dehydrated, and hungry (since we had had no lunch ((Water at the Mazda Café was $3.50 :yikes: ) but excited about the quantity of track time we had been able to get. We decided to go get some Greek food for dinner. The food was great and the restaurant provided us with a scenic overlook. (Borrowed that phrase from a Hooters billboard in N. Pinellas county, FL.) :D

My home internet has been down since Saturday so just now catching up. I met up with Dave almost as soon as I got there. We did one round of the Mazdaspeed 6 then went on the other courses. I too enjoyed the RX8 the most, felt very balanced. The MS6 plowed badly. After Dave left, the crowds had picked up, the line for the 6 was probably at 20-30 minute wait. While waiting in line, not one, but two cars were pulled out with fried clutches! The announcer guy stopped the proceedings and very curtly said, "If you don't know how to drive manual, please don't try it on these cars, drive the automatic!"
I ended up with the Bimmerfest decals that Dave gave me for safekeeping but ended up leaving by 10:30 or so. I can mail them to others or back to you Dave, let me know. I will be at the BMW event this Friday morning at 8:30.

I have plenty of stickers left. You should have stuck them on all the Mazdas on display. I'll save some for the BMW and Lexus events :D
