i was looking into super/turbocharging my 98 e39 mainly for fuel mileage reasons and my friend told me to look into somthing called a turbonator. apparently they improve gas maileage and slightly increase horsepower for $40. has anyone heard of this? would it be worth getting?

Logic would say that car companies would have put in a "turbonator" in all their cars years ago if it actually worked. A scam as old as the hills.
