The lock for the trunk of my '91 318is gave out tonight. The button is stuck all the way in and I can turn the lock but once I get it about halfway over (going from vertical to horizontal) there is resistance, then a clicking noise, then the lock turns the rest of the way but doesn't unlock the trunk. I soaked it down with WD-40 the best I could but no luck thus far. Any suggestions? TIA

you can always bust up the lock and then it will open or call a locksmith.

Several ways. Unbolt the back seat. Then kick out the filler plate in the back. Its for the ski pass through option. Its preforated. Then get someone small with a screwdriver do your dirty work

How do I unbolt the back seat? I know the bottom part of the back seat just pops out but how do I get the backrest of the back seat off?

How do I unbolt the back seat? I know the bottom part of the back seat just pops out but how do I get the backrest of the back seat off? There are brackets on the lower SIDE of the back seat usually covered up by the rear panels a little bit. 10mm and it pulls up off the hooks and out. Why can you not pull the lock button out and try to turn it or open it with the CLS ? You will need a midget or a 5 year old to fit through that ski hole. :D

I'm assuming that your suggestion is to pull the lock button out using brute force? I don't think my '91 318is has Central Locking. There's no button on the dash or center consol to lock/unlock the doors.

it wont have a button. Using the key in the drivers side door will unlock or lock all simultaneously.

Call Road side assistant for a lock smith, if you have coverage on your Insurance of coarse. Good luck.

:bareass: im with ya sam. M42s arent slow:) Esp if you get a single mass flywheel off of an M20. Simply because the M42 comes with a dual mass that weighs more:rolleyes:

Looks like the BFH method is going to be my only option. I took the drivers side door panel off to confirm that my car does not have central locking.

not to be an ass. But if its a 318is. It has central locking. Just not that fancy button you are use to with your other cars. When you lock the drivers side door. The pass side and trunk will lock as well. Or if you lock the trunk. Then both doors will lock

When I lock the drivers door the passenger door does not lock neither does the trunk. I got the trunk lock out today but I didn't not see an actuator for the trunk lock. There also does not appear to be a lock for the gas door. Isn't that one of the things that central locking is supposed to lock?

sounds like the PO had a field day removing the central locking.
Unless some strange person ordered it without?
Maybe they went bad and he would have rather sold it to you without?

Im stumped

Im stumpedMe too . There is no way he would have missed the actuator in the trunk when he pulled the lock. And is the door pin missing for the gas flap or does it not even have a hole there?

There's not even a hole for the gas flap pin. I'm assuming the actuator for the trunk lock would be to the passenger side? I can look again but I'm sure it's not there. I'm new to E30's so this may be a dumb question but was it possible to order a car without central locking? If this lends a clue the car has the 6 botton OBC/clock and the overhead display just has 4 functions, seatbelt, overheat, SRS, Airbag. The production date of the car is 03/90.

The actuator for the trunk lock is right behind the plate and the one for the gas flap should be above the battery.
