I read about this story some time ago. That's one of the biggest P.O.S's ever brought into the supercar world.

It's pretty pathetic that MB wouldn't even attempt to change out the engine. I bet that's the last time he buys an MB.

I would've been more sympathetic if didn't buy the car with the intention of simply turning it over for a big profit.

Seriously, it doesn't matter what he was going to do with the car. MB needs to man up and either fix the damn thing (where's that vaunted "German engineering"?) or reimburse the guy for the sale price (not his perceived loss, although he may get some of that in a settlement).

It'll be interesting to see if other owners pile on.

That guy needs a reality check.

I read about the story a while ago, it goes something like this: the car was commissioned by Mercedes Germany, made and sold by HWA GmbH, the racing arm of Mercedes headed by the founder of AMG. It was never officially sold in the US, this particular car was a private import. After the problem occured, the owner decided to take it to his friendly local MB dealer to get it fixed. The service department of an average US dealership of course couldn't handle a race car. In fact, none of Mercedes' facilities in the entire US knew how to deal with this car. So this guy decided Mercedes USA was responsible for it. Truth is, the car was made and sold only by HWA, it's not a MB USA product (and not even a Mercedes product). If there was a warranty that hasn't expired, then it's HWA GmbH in Germany this guy needs to get in touch with, he needs to send the car to Germany if his intention really is getting it fixed.

Plus, it's a road going race car, not your C230 that only goes to the dealer when interval service is due. Ever heard of an F40 or Enzo owner complaining about maintenance cost?

If you bought a McLaren F1 LM and the car wouldn't run, you need to step up and send the car back to McLaren in England to get it fixed, instead of blaming BMW NA for not honorring you the warranty.

Agreed. The car is a grey-market import and it's not even supposed to be in the US. You can't buy a car that's only sold in Europe with a Europe-only warranty, ship it to the US and then demand the manufacturer flies in trained technicians whenever there's a problem.

Plus, it's actually owned by a Mercedes dealership that was trying to sell it and broke on a test-drive.
