I wanted to share my experience with Rallye BMW for my 97 528I. I bought this car from my friend few days ago with a few mechanical problems (minor). One of which was the -40 degree display and non-working fan (A/C & Heat).
I did some surfing on the issues before brining the car to them, and I told him over the phone before going there what the problems were exactly- my temp. sesonr was either shot or the engagement might be loose, and my fans don't work which might be related with the sesor not working. He gave me an estimate of $3-400. Fine, I went.
When I got there, he explained that there would be 2 hours diag. charge. Perplexed, when I told him the problems and he already gave me the quote over the phone for replacing them. But what do you do? I said fine but told hime of an oil leakage problem in hoping to have them check out. At the end of the day the invoice shows the followings:

I asked him if the oil leakage was identified. He responded saying that would be another totaly new work just to identify cause they have to put dye into the oil and check out exactly where it was leaking. So my hope of them checking my car in its overall state within that 2 hrs. was just my hope.
Does BMW mechanics take 2hrs. to confirm what customers said was the problem by really standing in front of the car for 2hrs.
I couldn't help but think that this 2 hrs. diag. time is an arbitrary charge that they impose on an individual base (face to face and not over the phone). Why not 1 hr. or 3 hrs.? Did I look rippable, did my last name not Latin enough?
