I searched this and really only found people doing this on the m3's. Has anyone put a lightweight flywheel on their 318/325/328? I was going to either get mine machined or buy a lightweight flywheel when I replace my clutch. I have heard using a lightweight flywheel can cause problems with the camshafts. Not exactly sure what problems but have heard that. Also I heard when in neutral there will be more noise than usual. I am not sure iof these are true but this is what people with the m3's said is possible. The huge advantage to lightweight flywheels is more whp because theres less rotating mass and therefore allows the engine to get up to speed quicker. How many people have done this or know people who have done this and is it worth the 500+ dollars? Also do the e36's use twin mass or single mass flywheels? Im guessing if its not a single mass flywheel I wont be able to shave the stocker down. Thanks

no shaving the twin mass. Too light a flywheel can make the idle eratic and the RPM may drop too quickly for your taste between gears.

So e36 325i's do have twin mass flywheels? I have heard jb racing flywheels are machined so there wont be ay noice when in neutral but im sure ebay type ones and cheap ones will cause those problems. I cant spend anymore money for a little while because I just bought the fan delete kit eurosport underdrive pulley kit and a ssk so that broke the bank a bit. Anyways does anyone see this as a worth while upgrade in terms of price or should I do something else instead?

plus, you lose out on top end. Flywheels will only get you power in the lower rpms so unless you have other mods helping out with top end, I think this is an expensive waste. Just go with something else I think.
