New to this forum but need some advice ... Have a 2002 M5 ... wheel rims have been abused by local car wash .. I think the handheld power wheel washing guy overdid it one day and blistered the metallic finish off ... Any ideas on where I can go (even if possible) to have recoated ... also .. floor mats are pretty well shot .. the velcro on back has pulled off and mats are in basically need of replacing .. any ideas best place to find replacement

This happened to me also, with our 540i... the finish is chipping off and the wheels look bad. I heard that refinishing the wheels is just a temporary thing and buying new wheels would be better. When I told bmw about this they said it is from road "WEAR & TEAR"..

Wheels America.

The have locations around the country. I have one near by. For $ 110 a wheel they will straighten out any bends, weld in if metal is missing and paint like new. And they will do it overnite so you can take it in today and pick it up tomorrow, weekdays only of course.

Over the last 10 years they have fixed prolly 6 wheels for me. I highly recommend them.

Jesus $110 a wheel..... how do you guys survive over that side of the pond ?!?! It's ***163;30-40 in the UK per corner for FULL refurb....

IMHO I would have the wheels refurbed, there is no need to spend big money if the wheels are done properly

Please explain the numbers above. I'm not following 163; 30-40....???

Are you saying US $ 110 is high, or low, or what?

$ 110 is for a damaged wheel that's bent and missing some metal, not just painting.

Same thing happened to my 540i, but only on the LEFT side (the side where the car wash has the guide rail). The only thing that was different in my treatment of each side of the car was in going to the car wash once a week and running along that guide rail on the left hand side.

Ask your local wheel & tire place about "Chrome replacement". You can trade your damaged wheels for replacement (used) wheels with new chrome. I did such, and they were MUCH more shiny.

Since that experience, I refuse to take the M to any car wash where there's a guide rail.

Hope that helps.

PCovington:

If you are in Atlanta, google Wheel Wizard. Wendell Davidson has been doing this for Atlanta's top luxury dealers for years. I had a set refinished a few years ago. Looked as good as new. Cost about $700.00.
