hello,

i'm trying to fit a 3.5 lump from a E34 535 into my E36 coupe (originally in 318!).

i am having trouble with the sump (it hits the steering rack!), and engine mounts (they're about 3 inches in front of the subframe rubbers!).

i was wondering if anyone out there could help me or knows of someone who has tried a similar conversion?

any advice would be appreciated!!!

cheers, chris

Well As far as the Motor Mounts..sounds like you'll have to get some custom ones. If you know how to weld and fabricate a little bit, just make some. What part of the Sump is hitting the rack? You'll likely have to get another oil pan or customize the one you have.

the sump is mounted the front of the engine (as you might know!!) and is just fractionally too large, its about 1 inch out. i was planning to "trim" the sump a little but wasn't sure if there was another way round it. did they ever make a 3.5 E36?

cheers

No they didnt make an E36 3.5. I saw an article on somebody that put a 4.0 V8 in a E36 and they had to trim the sump to make it work. DO what you gotta do. Let me know how that works out, I'd thought about doing a swap. Why'd you decide to put a 3.5 in it anyways?

my coupe is actually a partially prepared rally car. i've had a bit of engine trouble with it. i managed to get my hands on a running 535 and fancied the challenge!

well thanks for your help, i'l let u know what modifications have to be done!!
