Picked it up yesterday, build date 06-06. I hope all upgrades and steering problems were taken care of at factory. So far so good. I only have about 250 miles on the car, so more updates after some break in miles. I will miss my E39 540, but this car is just what I wanted. Titanium Silver-Grey Dakota Leather-Steptronic-Logic 7-HD Radio-Sirius radio-Navigation-Cold Weather Package-Comfort Access-Heated Rear Seats- The car is a lease and I got a very good rate. Going to Chicago for the weekend, 400 miles round trip. Will post pics and update next week. Thanks for all your help. Best forum around. Autobon!

Congrats on the new car. After your 400 mile trip, I hope you can let us know how you like it.
I don't mind the gas mileage, but my commute is only 4 miles each way. It would be a different story if it was 40 miles. Even then, I might not complain. If you can afford big $$$ for a car, what's a little gas money:dunno:?

Wait a minute, are you guys trying to tell me that 18 - 19 mpg, average with 50/50 highway and city driving is bad for a 4.8L V8??? Are you kidding me?
The fact that a car with 360hp/360 lb-ft of torque capable of 0-60 in 5.2 seconds with a top speed governed at 155 mph can return almost 20 mpg's is amazing.
I had a 2003.5 G35 coupe and that car struggled to get 16 mpg!!!
I'd rethink your opinion that this car doesn't get good mileage.

:Stupid: 645 gets 19/26. If gas, tires, insurance, etc. is an issue, you can't afford the car to begin with. A lot of times, when you look at this issue you can make a big mistake. Dumping a new car and taking a huge loss to save a few bucks on gas. :tsk: It will takes years to make up the loss is fuel savings.

My G35 barely gets 17 mpg too! :(
There is another thread where I pointed out the difference between 25 mpg and 18 mpg is only a few dollars a day. Lame excuse.

I agree! I'm often surprised to read about members that i.e. opted for the X5 3.0 instead of the 4.4 to save a lousy $15/month on gas (I think the actual difference would be even less).
The funny thing is they are aware of a difference of 2mpg but actually have no clue how much $$ that reflects.
I would never pick a V6 over a V8 to save $15/month, at least not in a pricerange of the BMW X5.

I chose the X5 with the I-6 over the V8 because... I couldn't afford it at the time!
:yikes: (Wow... he admitted it.) :yikes:
I don't give a hoot about economy (my Porsche gets 11 mpg).

Based on the MSRP, that makes much sense!
But I'm sure there are people out there who apply this gas-assumption even to pre-owned cars that almost cost the same...(there is currently a thread on the X5-forum where a member is concerned about the lower mpg of the 4.4. He's thinking of getting a pre-owned 3.0 or a 4.4. The 4.4 would cost him $1K more, so there is actually no difference when it comes to affordability).

The truth is... the X5 3.0 will get lower mileage than the 4.4i!
My wife was consistent 14-15 mpg with her X5 3.0 - the poor engine was overworked compared to the V8.
Now, since the 3.0-liter is plenty strong to drive the E60 around, the comparison would not rest with the 550i (I am saying the 530i will get better fuel economy than the 550i). However, it is the 525i which is underpowered. I will argue the 530i will get better fuel economy compared to the 525i!

Yeah I think you pointed out that you save 1.37 a day for gas in one of the other threads. Lay off the fries like you said. I one day hope to be able to afford a 760i, gas is not a consideration when you talk about a car like that. Bottom line is I can't afford it. Why would a few dollars a day matter?
