Hi
The Aussie Industry trade mag John Mellors Auto News has some great articles on BMW in this fortnight's edition.
http://aami.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellorweb.nsf/weben/GoAuto%20e-News
Within it claims that the 2008 M3 will be announced at the 2007 Frankfurt Show with a March 2008 launch date in Aus. This is significantly later than we'd hoped.
I am hoping this is wrong!

That is a similar time frame to what we heard in the US....30 months from last Nov....so mid summer 2008 for the M3 in the US.

Screw it then
BMW take the current M3 off the market and then expect us to wait in anticipation for years while Audi and everyone else romps off with better cars. Instant gratification baby, they are going to lose business. And by the time they come out with the M3, Audi will be well on their way to developing another RS4 - pretty soon they'll be a whole generation ahead.
Wake up BMW!!!!

I think the new M3 should come out a lot sooner then it is. The current M3 is really not worth it over the 335i (in terms of power) and this not changing till 2008 is just stupid:thumbdwn:

Same scenario (timeline) happened when the E46 came out....didn't hurt M3 sales at all. So the Audi is ahead? They are still behind.

I think I'm confused. I had heard that the new M3 was being unveiled at the Paris Autoshow at the end of September. Not true???

I too heard that the 2008 M3 is being unveiled at the 2007 Paris Autoshow at the end of this month. I cant wait and I hope the information in this thread is wrong. I already have a deposit down on the #1 spot for my local dealer - they are indicating appx Sept 2007 delivery date. Im getting my money back if I have to wait until Summer 2008.

Exactly. You might as well get a 2-year lease on a 2006/7 vehicle now while you wait. September 2008 is a loooong ways away. Won't we all be flying in rocketships by then? :p

Well then you better get your money back. THe BMW NA M brand manager said in Nov 05 that he wasn't going to say when the new M3 was coming out, but if you did a 30 month lease on an E46 M3 that the new one would be around when your lease expired. Nov 05 + 30 months = April 08.

Spots normally aren't transferable. Caveat emptor.

I dunno... the test mules running around make it seem like the car is closer to production than that. They've obviously already got the V8 engine going, along with the coupe body and front fascia. 2 years seems way too long.... the car already looks close to completion.
I guess BMW is working on the twin-turbo setup and DSG style transmission.....:bigpimp:

I've done more reesarch since the last post. Have decided to get a 2 year old M5 over a 2008 M3.

Back when the E46 M3 launched there weren't as many contenders. Surely no one doubts that the current RS4 is streets ahead of the current M3. If we have to wait 2 more years until this is redressed, that's almost 3 years of not being number 1. I think BMW thinks that people will settle for the 335i, but i think people will not settle - am sure the RS4 is picking up credit, and i'm dropping my M3 place so i can get a used M5.

Not to mention what the Mercs are coming up with. The new C63/CLK63 AMG for example. Those will gun the M3 head on.

I was kidding.
I've been on a list since May 05 but I'll definitely consider the C63, if MB doesn't strangle the output of that new V8 when they drop it in the C-class.
