First off, I promised I searched this board, Bf.C, Google, and couldn't come up with anything.
Now,
I just got this immaculate 525i. It has the Premium package. No twisty seat but the power headrests do not work.
What should I tear apart/check?
The mechanic wanted $500 to fix 'em. I just laughed!

This is a real easy fix. Go to this site and follow the directions on shortening the cable sheath. http://bellsouthpwp.net/m/i/miales/seatcablesfix.htm. This mainly addresses the seat twsted back issue but it also covers the head rest. There are two phillip head screws that hold the head rest motor to the seat frame. Unclip some of the seat back leather and you get to the screws easy. I did not remove the cable from the sheath, I used a razor blade and cut around the sheath. I had to do this on my head rests and seat backs. I had a 95 525 that I bought new in August of 1994, I sold this car last week, it was a great car. I replaced it with a 2007 525. I also have a Bentley repair manual for your car, I will sell it for $30, it is in excellent shape. If you want it email me @ joebmw5@hotmail.com.

This procedure works on 95 525i as well.
