My clock display works fine on my 97 328i OBC. However, I turned the car off for 15 minutes and came back to see the clock had reset back to 0:00. Why did the clock reset when the iginition was turned off?:dunno:

Because it has no permanent electrical feed mate

Pull out the unit and check all the wires are ok and not damaged

Is it just the clock or radio code displays also? if you dont have the original radio anymore does the preset stations disappear? your trip/odometer does it reset also? Recent battery replacement??

I wonder if your battery is low or on the way out? I had a whole pile of electrical gremlins that disappeared with a new battery. Can you check with a voltmeter????

If it was so low that it wouldn't even hold the minuscule amount of power necessary to keep time, there's no way his car would even come close to starting. It's exactly what Pete said, somehow the permanent voltage to it is messed up. Gotta check all the connections now.

simply:
Check battery terminals and use tools neccessary to tighten both positive and negative connections.Check negative cable to body (13mm. nut) and tighten.
1) open fuse box and using a test light, check with key off everything to do with Radio/BC/Instrument.Check both sides of a fuse, its very hard to spot cracks that opens up when hot/heated.(heat = metal expands and breaks the connection.replace neccessary fuse with corresponding amperage rating.)
2)there should be an airbag warning lamp on for this.
3)there should be instrument cluster gauges inoperative,(most likely fuel gauge)
4)any accessories that require constant 12v (terminal 30) should be experiencing irregularities.

Gotta disagree on this one. My car started fine but had all kinds of problems until the battery finally gave up the ghost. Now all is fine...:)
Checking connections is a good idea.
