I'm new to the forum and a new BMW owner. I just picked up my 2007 328xi yesterday, and today was trash day. Even though the trash barrels were NOT near my car, my back bumper got scuffed up. (I'm assuming, they dragged or threw the barrels back, since I saw it laying on the ground) I managed to wipe of the black streaks, but there is still some scuff marks, it doesn't look deep, you have to look close but they're there. How do I protect my bumper and get rid of those scuff marks? My color is titanium silver metallic. Thanks for your help, (fyi we don't have a driveway, there's only street parking, thinking about renting a garage!)

Welcome to the 'Fest first of all! Second of all, (not coming down on you) you really should have a garage to park your brand new bimmer in. Next time it might be kids with eggs. If the scuff marks haven't gone down to the paint you should be able to just buff it out.

If you park on the street, you need to accept the fact your car is going to get trashed. There are evil people who do not care about another person's property.

I would be more worried about getting keyed than a bumper scrape.

come on people, not everyone is fortunate enough to have a garage to park in.
sorry for the marks jerry, my brand new X3 had a three inch scratch in the roof after one week of owning it. I think a cat walked up there and clawed its way off.
so i feel your pain!!

I feel your pain, after my car was smacked in the rear bumper (freak occurrence while it was in park), the other person's insurance paid for a new bumper for me. Now I use this bumper cover every time I have to park in the city on metered parking, it seems to be working b/c I have no scratches (so far knock on wood) on the back of my bumper. It protects the center back of the bumper b/c most of the time, the car behind you will smack you and leave a nice license plate indentation. So far so good, here's the link:

There is another bumper cover out there for sale at another site, it covers the entire bumper, but it isn't water proof, so it is only useful in garages, which is not your case. Best of luck, enjoy the new ride. :)

I didn't even pick up my car yet and I feel your pain. I hope you find somethingthat can help remove the scuff marks. The bumper guard is a great idea for primary prevention, especially in the city!

My X3 has black bumpers :bigpimp:

Anyway, I know how it can feel. Although I have no scrapes, I almost freaked out when I drove past a low-lying branch one night and it made an ominous thud. Luckily, it buffed out (whew!!)

Easy fix. no worry. If the scuff is not deep down to the plastic or metal, do this.
Get original paint kit, McGuire's paint cleaner,McGuire's polish, and McGuire's carnuba wax. I recommend McGuire based on personal exp. You can buy other brands also.
1. clean the wound with wax solvent or isopropyl alcohol.
2. apply original paint on the scuff and overlap a little bit on the surrounding area - THIN coat
3. let dry for 5 min
4. dab a little amt. of paint cleaner on to clean terry towel and rub gently on the dry paint.
Make sure to rub gently but vigorously in circular motion. less muscle, more repetition. The cleaner should blend in and disappear in about 30 seconds but keep rubbing for another min.
5. Repeat step 4 but with polish this time. Increase pressure with repetition.
soon everything will blend in, car will look like new.
6. seal with carnuba wax. Enjoy!
