Where should I go in Germany to pick up non-U.S. accessories...

My dealer will be placing the order for my (Euro Delivery) car tomorrow. Now I'm spending countless hours on the computer trying to find out where I should go to purchase non-US accessories for my 330Ci?

I've read in previous posts that some people bought the German first-aid kit and other non-US accessories when they picked up their car in Munich? Can someone please tell me where to look to find more information about this? Is it a BMW dealer located in Germany? Is it in the Pick-up center?

I'm also wondering if I can purchase the SMG paddle shift steering wheel when I'm in Germany?


Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The ED center has a little shop that carries mostly "BMW Lifestyle" items. If you're going to get real accesories, your best bet is the BMW dealer. You can stop by just any BMW dealer in Munich or anywhere else.

The closest BMW dealer from the ED center is on the Frankfurter Ring. If you're going toward BMW Museum, you'll pass it on the right hand side.

What is the name of the airport I'll be flying into? I only ask because I think there's 2 major airports in Germany and one is only a few miles away from the Delivery center.

Well, the ED center is in Munich, and Munich International airport (MUC) is about 30 KM away.

The "other" major airport that I can think of is Frankfurt International, but Frankfurt is 400 KM northwest of Munich.

I picked up my car in Munich back in October. The first-aid kit and the warning triangle are required items in Germany (and probably in the rest of Europe), so they are included in the car. You don't have to buy them. But, as they are not required in the U.S., I had read in this forum that they would be removed from the car prior to leaving Europe, so they would not be in the car when you pick it up here in the states. Because of this, I removed the first-aid kit and the warning triangle from the car and brought them home in my luggage. One thing that I did not remove from the car was the rechargable flashlight in the glove box. When I received the car in the U.S., it was missing, so I would also remove it from the glove box & bring it home with you in your luggage.

One thing, there is a pair of scissors in the first-aid kit. If you bring it back with you, make sure you put the first-aid kit (at least the scissors) in your checked luggage. I doubt that you will be able to get them past security in carry on bags!

That's the place, about 5 minute drive from the ED center and you'll love visiting. It's what auto dealerships should be. They have a huge selection of stuff along with a classy little restaurant and free coffee, etc. downstairs in service. They installed my M steering wheel, I bought the US alarm for $165, the oil bag accessory, etc.

How were you able to get the M steering wheel installed in Germany? Did you call them in advance- before you left for Germany- and made an appointment for the install?

I want to have the M wheel installed while in Germany but don't know how to accomplish this. Did you buy the M steering wheel when you were in Germany?

Did you ask your salesman for a replacement?

Anyway, this is probably nothing to do with ED because when I picked up my non-ED 328 the flashlight was missing too. I actually didn't realize it until a few days later. When I asked my salesman, he said no problem, just come in and pick it up.

When I came to see him, he walked over to the parts department, grabbed one and handed it to me.

But I did remove it from my 530 when I dropped off the car. I also took the owner's manual with me.

My sales rep here made a service appointment about two weeks prior to delivery for the M steering wheel, ensuring the wheel was in stock and a time for the install, took about 25 minutes, install cost 22 Euros. You could probably have this done without an appointment but if the wheel isn't in stock it may take a few days to get one in. I don't know the lead time for a service appointment but the service department was extremely accomodating and looked very efficient. You won't believe the size of the place, service is all underground.

Thanks for all of the information. I'll have to ask my sales representative to place the order for me so I can get the M wheel installed in Germany.

What else should I look to buy for my 330Ci? I've been researching front and rear strut bars and wanted to see if anyone bought these while in Germany.

By the way, how long did it take to get a Confirmation Number or VIN Number on your ED car? I want to track my order on BMW-USA's website but I don't have that info yet. Then again, it hasn't even been a week since they placed my order. :tsk:

Would I save any money this way or should I just go through my local dealer in New Jersey?

My guess is that both parts and installation are cheaper in Munich. I would fax or call the dealer listed above and ask for pricing before you take delivery.

With the euro and the dollar been close in value. You might want to consider is the price of accessories really going to be worth or will the price of installation tip the scale towards get the accessories in germany

I was just there and they do hose you on the exchange rate...I would be surprised if you got better than .92 Euros for every $1.00....all in all its worth getting the hard to find/order items, otherwise my advice would be to wait and buy it here....

Easy way to fix that is simply use your credit card and your bank will do the exchange at the official rate the day the transaction hits them. Today the official rate= 100 Euro = 102.94 US Dollar
