 i'm hearing conflicting stories...
some people say it's some kind of a vinyl/plastic floormats you get in europe instead of the 'regular' cloth ones you get here... while some people say they're the same?

Your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about. About a year ago, BMW implemented a new policy on ED. ALL cars (via Euro Delivery) now gets the free floormats.
It used to be (pre fall 2001) if your car model comes w/ sets of free floormats (i.e the 5 series), you still won't get the floor mats until the car arrive stateside.
Nowadays not only they'll give you your floor mats in Munich, They even give it to you even if your car (i.e. the series) doesn't come w/ floor mats.
;) Hope this helps,

I did ED, and I really don't think they're the same floor mats you'd get if you bought them from your dealer. The ED floormats are carpet, but they're thinner and the driver's mat doesn't have the letters BMW stitched on it-- or the heal re-inforcement that's on the regular pads. Its fine w/ me-- i'm happy that they toss in floor mats-- cheap ones are better than none at all.
I wonder if BMW's policy has something to do w/ it making it easier to clean the cars for customs purposes-- I think when they started including the floor mats Mad cow disease was at the fore-front of everyone's mind.

I agree with Robg, the ED mats are a cheaper mat with the floor retention screws but without the BMW inlay. My dealer said they would provide free replacement USA mats if the ED models were stolen in transit. My first aid kit and the styrofoam block for the hardtop disappeared, but the mats arrived in ED Muenchen condition.

robg and CascadeTelcom, I think you guys must both got a different car mats than the ones I received. But the ones that I was given in my last 6 ED in Munich are the
EXACT same ones that's sold by BMW dealers here in U.S. :D They may or may not have the BMW letters on the front Driver Mat, but they are the exact same quality and thickness as the ones sold here.;) As soon as the car arrives, I will take a picture of the mats of our 2003 330 side by side w/ the extra 540 mats that I bought here in U.S. dealer.

The definition of "exact" in my dictioary means exactly the same, the mats are not the same. The BMW lettering and the foot pad area on the USA drivers mat means they are more attractive and will last longer in the heel area which denotes better value and quality to me.
But, after all is said and done anything that is included in the delivered price is a bonus with BMW and I gladly accepted them. ie: Are there any other 50K plus vehicles that do not have a factory alarm system operative at delivery and included as standard equipment?

I have to side with Beewang. First, a 3er does not come with floormats. ED provides floormats. They are a velour mat with rubber type backing. BMW also sells a 'City' mat and 'Country' mat. You can purchase at least five different mats. In the U.S., Embroided Floor mats are sold. BMW does sell a mat that does not have the embroided letters (E46 mats). The difference is that the U.S. mats have the velco retention system for the E46 versus the T-type retainers. I have a set of rubber mats for my E46. They use the T-type retainer. As far as been the same E46 mat, I guess the answer is no. The retainers are different. The E46 mat sold in the U.S. is actually the 'City' mats sold in Europe. Sorry, the accessories catalog for Germany and G.B. does not list any P/N.

To summarize: My ED mats do not have the BMW lettering and pad or the velcro "Mat-loc" retention system as do the USA mats. The difference is: My ED mats are plain and use the pin retention sytem which is the same retainer used on my current rubber Winter mats. That's 30 mat fans.

What did your mats come in like, BeeWang? Friend got his ride ED like I did and we noticed that they were slightly different--not hugely so, but definitely not identical. Where are your pics and what did you score?
Friends buying US mats usually had logos and different fastening devices.
Appreciate the straight scoop and straight up info, all!

Okay,
Lansing, here's the deal, the floor mats that they give you in Euro Delivery is one of the FIVE mats BMW sells. It is the same material as the carpet in my car. It DOES NOT have the BMW lettering on it and nor the city mat's small rectangular patch on driver's side. This is the one (out of 5) of the same floor mats that's sold thru dealer.
And for the record, BMW does NOT sell floor mats w/ the roundel Logo on it. Some will have the 3 letters of "BMW" on it, but it definitely does not looked "Logo".
cheers,

Beewang, My Bud...
Well thanks for the clarification. It's late, and no offense, but bad or less than accurate info isn't real helpful. So I do appreciate the real scoop. Maybe you just learned this, but from the tone earlier, it sure sounded like you were pretty positive.
For me, I'd rather hear that someone doesn't know. Misinformation makes this board less valuable.

Lansing,
not exactly sure what you're talking about (or trying to say). But if you are saying that I dunno what kind of floor mats I have in my BMW, let me spell it out for you for the last time. I got the exact same floor mat that I bought at my local dealer two years ago. So, what is your question?? quite beat around the f***ing bush. If you want to call me an a$$hol by all means say so. Please don't give me any of your horseschitt of "...Thanks buddy, but no offense.... I'd rather hear that someone doesn't know.."
Geezes!!
oh... btw, no offense, and none taken..

No one is attacking you here, BeeWang. Don't get your panties in a wad. Just read my post--it's succinct and honest. Personally I'm here for the open forum and invaluable info. You were wrong and left room for no error. I've done it myself.
I shouldn't have to spell it out, but since you still seem unclear, you mentioned that "I think I take the crown on ED, so take it from me, it is the EXACT same ones that you buy here in the U.S. ...Your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about. Or in this case, act on misinformation.
Just a friendly message. I don't want a debate, just GOOD INFO and NO ATTITUDE. Can you do that?
I'll consider this convo done and history. I don't want to burn your time/energy or mine for that matter on something as meaningless as this, ok, but I did feel the need to answer your questions. Also, I don't plan on perpetuating this thread--we don't need this. Hope you bury this, too.
Anyway, congrats on your ED experiences, and best of luck on those in the future. Your inputs generally interesting and valued.

Okay, thanx Lanse.
I dunno, maybe its me, but your quotes of me seems unclear. I am not sure what part you're quoting that I've said is wrong. But from my personal experince:
9/1999 ED 540ia NO FLOOR MATS
2/2000 ED540ia NO FLOOR MATS
2/2000 ED 330cic NO FLOOR MATS
10/2001 ED 330cic YES Floor mats
10/2001 ED 330cic Yes Floor mats
10/2002 ED 330cic Yes Floor mats
10/2002 ED 330cic Yes Floor mats
Yes, Euro delivery now comes w/ floor mats on ALL models in Munich, and this happened about a year ago.

My car in Munich was equipped with nice floor mats that had a few velcro squares underneath for better grip. I packed them in my suitcase at the drop-off to make sure they are not lost.
Today I picked my car at the dealership and, sure enough, there was a new set of floor mats but of worse quality (rubber/foam underneath). However, these have the screw mounting instead of velcro. Therefore, I have two questions:
- do all E90s already have screw holes no matter of the floor-mats type or... the holes are made only when putting the screw-type floor-mats? :bawling:
- which mounting is better: velcro or screw-hole-type?
Btw, my car was filled with full tank of gas again. Wow  I left it with nearly no fuel. I gased up for 2 euro in the city just to make it to the drop-off :)

I just recently returned from ED. Car came equipped with carpet-material floor mats that looked just like I remember the ones I saw at the dealer - to the best of my memory anyway. You'll like them, they worked just fine :)

Our 330i (2006) had cloth normal floor mats, the ones in the 2006 3 series accessory booklet (just receive it by mail this week) offers a plush set of floor mats with BMW insignia on the mats. They are described as plush and cost $125 from the dealer. They do have a BMW stock number.

you pay $40 for the CAR. If you do US delivery, the dealer will throw in plush floor mats depending on how bad u were while negotiating the price. (and how much he made off u)

yea...for every $1000 of pure profit, they'll give you ONE floormat. This rule holds true on MSRP sold cars. haha since the MSRP - Invoice is about 4k fully loaded

Does it really matter !!!!!!
You get mats, they appear to be the same, no one will ever notice a dfference in your fastener! If you really want to be special get your dealer to give you the rubber mats. I loved those things... Now I just have to find some good ones for the Boxster.
Oh, Beewang what exactly do you do for a living ? It seems that you just travel back and forth between Munich and the US. I wish my dad would let me have a 650....
