The newest addition to the family is getting its first Zaino treatment today. After washing/drying the car, I now more than ever greatly appreciate the subtle body lines and curves of the 6-series. However, I realized that I haven't a clue how to care for my first ever ragtop.
Any do and don'ts and pearls of wisdom for the gallery would be appreciated. Can a use a lint-remover on the top (or will this lead to increased wear, or worse - leaves and bugs sticking to the roof etc). Can I put some treatment on the rubberized liner that is located along the rear margin of the convert top?
Thanks

Jeez. My arm is in spasm from waxing (not to mention my neck). Tell me how to post pics and I'll do it.

OK. I'm too tired to fight it! Here's the info & the car:
2007 650i Conv Mineral Silver/Beige Pearl Leather
SMG, HUD, Sirius, Sports, Cold Weather, Logic7, Active Steering (thats most of 'em).
Included a pic of pearl leather. I have had Dakota for the past 3 or so years and liked it, but Pearl is a real upgrade. More supple/soft hand to the leather yet with firm feel. There are little rounded embossings (the Pearls) present on seats, backrests, and covering headrests.
Now about those tips ...

Beautiful and welcome. Very nice combo. I bought my 650 used and was built about a year ago with a black top. To this day, nothing has been done or applied to the top (as far as I know) and it looks as good as new. It gets a good hose-off/chamois dry when I wash it at least once a week.

Welcome. Nice car! Mineral Silver is definitely the best colour for the 6er, isn't it? ;) The colour looks much better in the metal than in photos (as do many other BMW colours).

Can a use a lint-remover on the top (or will this lead to increased wear, or worse - leaves and bugs sticking to the roof etc). I have used a lint roller (the reversed masking tape kind) to remove dust, cat hair, etc from the top for 18 months and haven't had any problems with other stuff sticking to it.
Can I put some treatment on the rubberized liner that is located along the rear margin of the convert top?I treat the top about twice a year with 303 Fabric Guard (the same company that makes 303 Protectant - a non-glossy tire treatment that I use) which is a water repellant. I know GBelton impregnates his top :yikes: (I don't know what he uses ) and it looks good.

I use Ragg-Top on my M Roadster and would highly recomend it. Water beads on the top like it does on waxed paint.

Beautiful car and interior, but the name 'Pearl Leather' predates the fancy embossings on our new 6 series MY2007 option. For quite a while, BMW has been calling "Pearl" a specific type of smooth upscale leather which they offer on certain models. My late 1995 M3 Sport Luxury had it. The 2003 & 2004 745s Sports (when not ordering the Nasca leather Comfort Seats option) also had it. But the embossings on the MY2007 650s are definetely 'new' for BMW and you have every right to call them 'Pearls'. I loved them in my recently delivered 650i. Z356

Autosol Convertible Top Sealant and Protectant
Waterproofs the top and protects against UV damage.
It's a great repellant.
