How do I access the brake fluid reservoir just to check the fluid level on my '01 530i ?

The manual says it is under the cabin filter on the driver's side, but before I dismantle it, I wonder if anyone has a procedure so I don't break anything or waste my time doing unnecessary removal of parts.

I'd hate to have to go to the dealer just for this.

Thanks!

That's the only way I know of...take a look at the cabin filter assembly; it's only a couple of clips and should take a minute or two tops.

When I wrote the installation manual for the StopTech big brake kit for the E39 5-Series, I included a section on accessing the brake fluid reservoir.
