E39 fitment

Hi Gary, sorry if this is repetitive. I have an 03 540i non sport with the 16" oem wheels. I would like to upgrade to the 18" rims with a staggered set-up...8" front & 9.5" rear. And then add the oem tire sizes. I've read that I would be better off with the 17" wheels. Which would I be better off? Thank you for any advice you might provide.

An 18" setup will have a firmer ride and a bit faster steering response than a comparable 17" setup. If you have rough roads in your area, a 17" setup will provide a bit more tire sidewall protection to the wheels as well. Real world handling between the two should be pretty similar.
