View Full Version : Testing tires after they're partially worn

Hi, I'm a new member, just first want to thank everyone for all the great info on these forums, and especially Gary for moderating this one and Tire Rack for providing the only (as far as I've found) good source of data on tires.

My question, directed to Gary: we all know, especially those of us who have had high performance tires, that the characteristics of tires change as they wear - they become louder, tramline more, etc. Has Tire Rack ever tested or considered testing tires after they become partially worn? It's great that you test and provide comparisons of new tires, but for most of the time we drive on a tire it is no longer new. Have you ever considered doing a review of how tires change as they wear, and comparing tires to each other both when new and after, say, half their useful tread is worn? Or would the logistics of that just be too difficult (getting different tires with equal wear, etc.)?
