Can we have some facts and a direct answer to the original poster's question?

yeah, it would be nice to have an answer to the question instead of reasons why the answer isnt important.
i too am probably holding out for a dice. but can someone please answer the question? ive seen spreadsheets showing the differences, does no one take photos of the OEM iPod setup?
show me how back it sucks, please!

I'll answer - there's nothing that appears on the NAV screen other than CD 1-01. The BMW kit is not capable of text display, and worse - disables the display on the iPod itself.
You're much better off getting the DICE system for the same price and mode features.

I got ipod adapter installed by the dealer. Works great ! :) I did read some postings here that DICE module is great compared to BMW's. My 2007 X3 with navigation is on lease. So got it dealer installed.
An ipod cable comes into the glove compartment. Just connect your ipod and you are good to go. Works on the radio console controls as well as controls on the steering wheel. Please note you will not see any of the ipod things on the screen. But when you click on some control, you will see menu for sampling, search etc. But you won't be able to see your playlists or tracks. I never use this feature.
If you still want pictures, I can post some here. Let me know.

Hey Tom, I noticed that the HD radio / iPod integration kit is now saying it is available. I pre-ordered this a while ago but it is still showing as Pre-Order in my order status. I was under the impression it was shipping today. Please confirm this, I am VERY anxious to get this already...

I'm happy with my iPod Nano (previously shuffle) hooked to the aux jack - great for long trrips on random mode, which is pretty much all I use it for. Quick and cheap solution.

Just do a self install, it really is simple as pie. The MOST it could take you is about 45 mins. It's definitely not worth spending probably $100+ to have someone else install it for you.

Thanks guys, but I really suck at DIY stuff... specially when it involves electronics... so still hoping someone knows a shop in MTL where I can get this stuff done.
BTW Tom, does the regular Dice kit (not HD) involve anything that I could get in trouble with if I lease the car? Meaning when I return it in 3 years can anyone tell that I have modified the radio without looking under the seat for example or in the armrest (I guess this is where most people hide the unit)? Any drilling involved or anything else that can damage the dash or other parts?

The DICE kit is completely Plug and Play - it can be easily removed at the end of your lease with no trace of installation.

I just received my DICE ipod Car integration kit. I would love to "plug and play", but I have yet to locate the connectors (CD changer iBus harness) for my (May build) 2006 X3, with in-dash base radio and single CD player (no NAV or bluetooth). I have checked the boot with no luck...the DICE install pdf suggests the connectors are located underneath the center console but gives no other info or pics. Has anyone found the connectors under the center console, and can you describe how to remove the center console (for dummies like me)? Any help appreciated, links etc...many thanks.

is your X3 prewired for Sirius? This will determine where the connections are.

Wiffer...Thank you, the "rodneygrill" install pics are of great help. Any idea how to pull the center console bucket to expose the screws in pic1 and pull the ashtray to expose pic 2 bolts?
Tom...my 2006 X3 is pre-wired for Sirius per the dealer using my VIN. Any idea where the connectors are?
Thanks again!

Your connectors are in the cargo area, on the driver's side. There will be a 3-pin and 6-pin adapter you can use. These are bundled up on a cloth sheath.

Tom, I do not have a 3-pin and 6-pin in the cargo area. I have two sets of connectors in two separate cloth sheaths, one has three connectors each with a single cube connector and the second has a large multiple 48 pin ? connector. I am not authorized to attach a pic so I will email it to you. Thanks again

Tom, your the best! Thank you for establishing that this 06 X3 is "not pre-wired for Sirius. I will look underneath the e-brake bracket for the connectors as you suggested. Thanks again!
Does anyone have any tips or links on how to pop out, the center console storage bin which exposes the two console hold-down screws, and the rear ashtray which allows access to the two other hold-down bolts per the "rodneygrill install pics"? Brut strength?

i highly recommend the dice unit. aes (http://www.europeanautosource.com/index.php?cPath=42_136&osCsid=7830952a300fa1196942a107d617456a) will take care of you.
let me describe my '07 sport/navi/premium audio install: i did not find any of the necessary harnesses in the center console. the rear drivers-side panel had what i needed. the cables can only go in one place (you couldnt mess this up).
however, setting up the cables alone didnt do the trick. i re-did things with the battery disconnected (your supplied bmw tools work perfectly for this), but this too did not yield audio. turns out in my case, and other '07s from what im hearing, that the correct cd changer cable is not plugged into the head unit. as scary as it might sound to take it out, it really isnt. again, the supplied bmw screwdriver will do the trick along with a little tugging. ( i could take some photos of anyone cares for them) once the cables are swapped (color coded and unmistakable) all you have to do is set up your text display options (if you havent already).
me and my 80GB'er say go for it!

Anyone know where I could get the Dice ipod integration kit installed for me in Montreal (Canada)? I called a few places this morning and they knew nothing of it :dunno: .
I have to say, I was dubious about the self-install. I am a woman who has never done more to my car than drive it hard and drop it off at the mechanic for maintenance or the detailer for wash and waxing.
I wanted the DICE installed when it arrived but the person (one of the few I trust to work on my cars) who was scheduled to do it had that nasty cold/bronchitis thing that is going around. I decided to try the install myself because I *really* wanted it in sooner than later. I figured worse case scenario, I could 1) Call Tom at EAS; 2) Ask a neighbor to help; and/or, 3) Drive the car over to the sick mechanic's house and beg.
Well, I got through it. It took me a day. Since I am car-DIY-challenged, I had to walk away a number of times while mumbling things like "dimple?... where the hell is this dimple???" and other such things that only become obvious once you figure it out!
The worst part of the job for me was snaking the cable under the carpet to the console. I was anxious about breaking the Denison cable and snagging some cable from the car. Turned out the hardest part was actually pulling the cable through. Oh - and I should have put some protective covering between the cable ties that held up the center console, as the leather got scuffed from the cable ties during all my fidgeting in the snaking process.
I did have to call Tom at one point because once it was in, I accidentally got into AUX mode and couldn't find my way out. (Thanks again Tom. )
I have driven the car a couple of times since the install and I cannot tell you what a pleasure it is. The quality is great. I am dedicating an Ipod to the car so I don't ever forget and leave the house without the pod and not be able to enjoy the tunes.
Course, we have great weather in Palm Springs this time of year, so maybe you can find a heated garage to do your install.
Good luck!
