I know a lot of people have radios already and I wanted to know what kind you would recommend that I get? Looking for something that gets the job done, doesn't need to be fancy  I just looked on ebay and they have a million of them,

I recommend any motorolas. I've found that they get much closer to their theoretical distance than other brands.

I've got some of the 12 mile ones...

Ya, motorals (sp?) work really well. also, take the distance advertised and cut it in half and that's about what you'll really get.

I have both a Motorola 2 watt GMRS and a Midland 5 watt GMRS radio. The Moto rocks and the Midland is junk.

I believe Jon has in the past announced the channel for the road rally at a driver meeting prior to departure. We take a similar approach for the Northern California caravan.
