took my car in for mot last week and it failed on one thing, the nearside wheel bearings so i told them to go ahead and do the job and it cost me £120, yesterday i heard a grinding and knocking noisefrom the wheel in question so i rang the garage first thing to tell them they tell me to check the bolt are tight on the wheel as sometimes they come loose after a wheel has been off. so tonight i check and all bolts are secure, i jack the car up and remove the wheel to inspect further only to find my caliper hanging off becauce there is only one bolt holding it on, as i held the caliper in it supposed position and turned the disc it locked on, so as its been hanging and ive been drinving at 70mph down the A1 if this had jumped up it could have locked my wheel up sending me up **** creek without a paddle! what makes it worse is i had my kids in the car too!
surely this couldnt have just dropped out wothout the garage not fitting it properly?
im ringing up in the morning what would u say???

"good morning you half job b*stard, what is the name of your solicitors cos i am gonna sue you for doing such a bad job on my car that i could have died"
Something like that buddy!!
They messed up BIG time with a component (braking system) that is VERY unforgiving of idiots!!
Glad you are ok though
As for telling you that the bolts can come loose, i call bulls*hit buddy, they will only come loose if someone didn't do their job right.
I have worked at a race circuit and we had wheels of EVERYDAY and never heard of this...and we used to race them for 5 hours a day.
me thinks you need to have a word in their shell!!

yep wheel off disc and calipers too.
To be honest mate go there tell them what happened ( DO NOT GO IN YOUR CAR, say you feel it is undrivable) ask them to come and see it whereever you have parked it. show then and ask them to sort it out, if they get arsy mention trading standards and lawyers/solicitors.
i definately would make them pay for the work to be done at another garage as they seem imcompetant to do it.
compensation wouldn't go amis either or they pay for whatever balls up they have made.
Personally mate i have to be honest if this was me i'd go effing mental specially as my kids were in the car.
this is no accident, bolts just dont come loose there is no way on this earth that that bolt for the calipers was torqued up.
dont let it lie mate you could have been another statistic worst case scenario.. harsh to say i know but try to relay to the fool that forgot to fix your car properly.
keep us posted. oh and name and shame them please.

x2
I'd give them a piece of my mind over the phone, but probably just bolt up the caliper myself and resolve to never give any business to that mechanic again. Not worth the hassle and expense of trying to extract money from them to pay a different garage.

Trading standards will do them. but take bloody pictures as well.
don't fix it yourself why should you you piad 120 quid to have it done, get it bloody done by them or another garage

i rang them first thing this morning and got it resolved with no hassle, i explained it to the owner of the garage and he couldnt believe it but admitted it was a fault at there end (tbh i was expecting them to try and wriggle out of it but quite the opposite) he immediatly asked for my address or where the car was parked (i was at work car was at home) and went out to it within 1/2 an hour told the wife he would take the car and drop it off sorted in 1/2h-1hr sure enough it was back within 1/2 an hour he told the wife all was sorted apologised and told her he had my number and would ring me later to apologise to me too as as it should never have happened, sure enough i got a call later today with apology.
i had thought of taking the matter further but dont think its worth the hassle it so ill just leave it and never take my car there again!

I agree, no need to be vindictive, they messed up, they know it and you know to try another garage
