Hi
I have a J reg 316i saloon, which looks fantastic. I have a body kit, 18inc alloys, full leather interior, the list goes on and on- she looks great. But i am starting to struggle with the lack of power from this model. I got the car for a steal 2 years ago and she is my pride and joy. What can i do to get extra power, is it possiable to swap the 320 engine into this model. If so what is involved. I already have a K&N filter, fully recon head, straight through exhaust s/steel.
Thanks
Chris

swapping an engine is gonna cost a lot.. so u r better off by selling the car and getting an I6.
u can add CAI and exhaust and watever but it wont make that much of difference.
if u want power, sell the car and get a 325 or 328.

I have a 316 I M. The only way I can see for you to get more power, is maybe find a wrecked 316 I M and transplant the 'M Tec' motor.
BUT, they are fairly rare.
The power difference in the motor, is 75 kw in standard form and 115kw in 'M Tec' form.
It may be cheaper to buy a 325 or 328.
I love driving my (wifes...lol) 316.

There wasnt that many brought to Aust either. We (my wife and I ) searched for about 8 months before we found one. We had to go to another state, and if you know much about the size of Aust, thats a big issue. From our place, the smallest drive time to another state is about 9 hours, on a 110 kph freeway.
We only knew they existed because a frriend od ours had one and we were VERY impressed with the drive.
There were a few relesed in the U.K. and U.S. as well.
Its the car in the pic on my post.
Happy Bimmering.
