I have read a few posts where purchasers of new M6's found themselves taking the car in for repairs almost immediately. Is there a lot of this going on? Are there reliability issues for the new M6? Would also be interested in hearing from anyone who recently took delivery of a new M6 and did NOT have to go back for repairs right away. I am close to purchasing a new M6 convertible but do not want to step into a problem situation. Any feedback from actual purchasers of new M6's would be most appreciated. (The sales people at the dealership try to be reassuring but they are not objective like an actual owner.)

The M6 has a new engine. Be prepared for additonal issues. It goes with the territory. If you wait a year or two, your chances of having a trouble free car improve.

I have driven 3000 trouble-free miles on my 2007 m6. The engine and tranny are great. Generally I agree not to buy a 1st year production auto..so I waited for the 2007s to come out. With the press of a button (M) on the steering wheel the car changes complexion completely. From a 400 HP GT to a 507 HP road BEAST.
The only complaint I have with the car is the gas tank is too small. It should have been 23 gallons. At 13mpg average, my wife thinks I am having an afair with the quciky-mart attendent at the gas station near our house.
p.s. I love driving the car! And I love coming up on 911s.....but I do try to avoid the 911 turbos...you need to know who to challenge and who to avoid.

Only 600 miles so far and my low oil warning message is on. Hmm, anyone else experience this?

They burn about a quart every 1,000 miles.

But Ive only put on 600 miles, the oil has to be pretty damn low for the warning message to come on, no? BTW, Im seeling my stock wheels ;)

Oil consumption during breakin is VERY normal. A quart in 600 mile is about right. This will change as the engine breaks in. I burned about a1 11 quarts in 1200 BUT after that and the 1200 servicing, I burned another 1/2 quart and then NORTHING and my current odometer reading is 3100 miles. So OIL CONSUMPTION IS NORMAL. Go to the dealer and have them top it off AND ask your sales rep for 2 FREE quarts of the 10/60 oil used in the car and store it in your trunk. Also READ the manual about how to get an accurate oil reading AFTER they top off the oil in the car. No big deal, but I wish I had a dip stick instead.
Now no disrespect intended BUT thee are many more active M6 an d M5 drivers on another board were all of your questions may have already been answered... go the following web site an join it:

Hmmm. I have about 900 miles on my 2007 M6 vert, and I have not seen any oil warning yet. Should I be concerned?

No. Just check your oil by following the instrctions in the manual. If it is low or getting close, go to the dealer and have then top it off..but not too full. Then ask for the free 2 quarts of oil and put them in the trunk next to the battery along with a couple of paper funnels.
As I stated in an earlier post, after the car is borken in, oil consumption apprears to diminish. BUT this IS a high performance engine so check it regularly.
