Hi! New member here :)
So I have a 98' 318i that's at about 143k miles.

Recently, my brake lights have been going out. The bulbs arent bad, checked that, and I've just had my switch changed. So I'm thinking maybe it's being shorted somewhere.

ALSO, my fuel gauge light is giong berzerk! My gas light will come on saying that it's empty when I've just filled up. Then, at other times, it says that I have gas, but i know it's inaccurate. The fuse keeps popping. I'll change it, then seconds after I start up, the gas light will come on saying I have no gas :tsk:

Any suggestions? MUCH appreciated, Thanks.

Check the bulb sockets. The metal tabs that make contact with the housing are sometimes deteriorated or oxidized. If not, you might have a bad brake switch.

You might have a problem with your fuel sensor unit. Try unplugging it and see if it becomes consistant. Meaning, if it consistantly shows that you are out of gas or always full. I'm not sure what it defaults to when unplugged.
