Can you upgrade the 2.5 engine to an m3 engine or 2.8 without having to change the transmission and dme. I have a 95 352I wanted to get a little bit more performance and I have across some great deals on used engines with warranty.:dunno:

Any help would be appreciated, looking forward to all advise

Going from 2.5 to 2.8 in my opinion is not advised, since 2.5 and 2.8 have similar performance. If I remember correct (at least in Europe models) they have same horsepower but 2.8 has a bit more torque. So, if you are talking about a simple 2.8... I wouldn't suggest you do it. On the other hand, if you intend to use a 2.8 as a base and add more horsepower with various peripherals, that can be a good idea since 2.8 uses aluminum block and newer technology which can easily support enough modifications.
Of course the solution of directly going to 3.2 //M sounds much better to me.

That part would be the ideal.... conversions (for me ) are good up to 2.8 (foe E36) or up to 3.0 for E46. I prefer ///M to be original... (and this is knowledge that stems from my present car).

bc engine swap is not gonna be cheapppp.

The point is not the money you will pay to get the engine on your chasis. The thing is that even the better conversion, will NEVER be the same as a genuine //M. Trust me on that... I was crazy to have an //M and I bought one (conversion from 316i). It's ok... but every time I drive a genuine //M.. the differences are more than clear.

But again,...... if extra horsepower is your only concern... follow your heart :D
