According to a poster on another forum, the 3.0 Liter I6 weighs about 239 lb, but the E46 M3 3.2 Liter I6 weighs 476 lb.

Can anyone confirm this ?

Tell the guy he needs to step off the scale when he weighs the M3 motor. :lmao:

The M3 motor has an iron black, no? M54's all aluminum. The discrepancy still seems high, but it is definately at least 50% heavier.

Does anyone know how much a BMW aluminum V8 weighs? It would be a good indicator of the accuracy of the S54's weight measurement. An aluminum V8 should weigh about as much as an iron-block I6.

Hmm this link has some interesting info (in Kg), but as luck may have it the page has everything but what you're looking for:

FWIW I doubt that the M motor weighs twice as much but anything is possible. :dunno:

Methinks that is too much.

According to the site posted the M54 weighs about 277 pounds.

The S62 weighs 347. The S52 334.

The S54 should weigh in the same range as the S62 and S52, so I would say about 340 would be a good quess.

The 4.4 and 5.0's are both LIGHTER than the S54, I know that for a fact.
