Sold my 18 months old 2.5 Auto X3 four weeks ago and purchased a Luxury Model Mazda CX-7.... what do I think of both

1. Performance : CX-7 will kill X3 for having 2.3 L Turbo 175KW and 350nm of torque
2. Handling : on par with X3 may be a tad better due to firm suspension set up
3. NVH : better than X3, CX 7 is very smooth and quiet
4. Interior : X3 leather is better, but smaller inside than CX-7
5. Exterior : X3 looks slightly better
6. Economy : CX-7 uses less juice than X3 due to having 350nm of torque vs 245 for X3 so the engine works less
7. and in Aust CX7 is $15K cheaper than X3

Maybe for old X3 but compared to new 2007

Performance: 2007 X3 is faster 0-60 for Manual X3 is 6.9, Auto is 7.1. Edmunds quotes CX-7 as 7.7 0-60
Economy: 2007 X3 gets 18city-26hwy for Manual 19city-26hwy for auto. Mazda site has AWD CX-7 being 18city-24hwy.

Is it a FORD ? Absolutely NOT it's based on Mazda MPS 6, Ford is actually borrowing the mazda platform for futher models

Now Ford is about to go BURST, Mazda will go solo soon

Am I proud of driving a Mazda ? Absolutely NOT     ... still love the 07 X3 or 3 Touring as my first choice, BUT as a lease cat through work, BMW is not on my employer preferred option and CX-7 is the best pick of the list... the rest are Boring Camry, Ford falcon, GM-Holden etc....:thumbdwn:

IMHO : CX-7 is very good SVU for money can buy, X3 is still a prestige SUV but the 05 X3 has too many flaws : under power 2.5, five speed auto, CHEAP black plastic front and rear bumpers, poor quality front dash, OLD five series E39 steering wheel... just to name a few

Sounds like you are trying to make yourself love the Madza but sorry dude I can't help. 07 X3 is a sweeter car with the new engine and all the upgrades over you 05 X3 and with the December lease price I got a great deal too.

Did you look at the acura rdx. The acura has a much nicer interior, quicker 0 to 60(per car and driver),faster skid ratio and salom. The intrest rate deal for 3.9% for 5 years, is a great deal. The mazda is also a nice car. But it is not a luxury car and not in same leauge as the acura and bmw(IMO).

Consumers Mag 01/07 tested 6 sporty SUV's--X3 was second behind the new Rav4 and the Mazda was last--CX-7 comments were: frustrating hesitation at low revs, such as merging (potentially dangerous) Power then comes on sometimes more strongly than intended--Raspy engine noise--stiff ride with rubbery impacts--X3 had better acceleration and MPG and was faster in accident avoidance test. CX-7 Head room was limited for tall drivers and small windows created blind spots.
But the Mazda is cheaper!--as were the rest of the pack.
--So I guess this says the '07 X3 is much improved over previous years?? BTW Nissan Murano was 3rd, Acura RDX came in 4th--FX35 was 5th

Sorry, I've driven both and I have to say the 2007 X3 would lay waste to the CX-7. I was on the CX-7 bandwagon until I had one as a service loaner for 3 days. WHAT A POS!

1. The interior has cheaper plastics than my vacuum, all of it paper thin and hard. I would not be able to stand looking at that cheapness everyday.
2. Where's the iPod hookup? No where to be found. At least the X3 comes with the aux input standard.
3. Ugh, turbo lag. 'Nuff said.
4. Poor NVH, that turbo 4 is loud, and not happy when revved to redline.
5. Gas hog! Look over at the mpg posts at mycx7.com. Most owners are upset.

Sure, the CX-7 is cheaper than the X3...They're not even in the same class. Compare the CX-7 with the Rav4 and CRV, not with the X3.

should I sell my CX-7 and go back to X3

I australia CX7 luxury is $45K X3 2.5 with leather no sun roof is 65K... $20K premium over the CX7... that almost 30% premium..... one thing I considered it thoroughly before I bought the CX7

I know my heart felt for the X3 but my head (or the dark side) said CX7....

Motor Trend just scored the CX-7 LAST in a comparison with the RAV4 and the new MDX. The new MDX won the test - they will likely then compare it with the 2007 x3 which they see as the class leader.

Sorry Bud, I have been researching and test driving every SUV in this class for six months now. CX-7 (all plastic) Acura RDX (ugly) Murano (couple bucks more and get the X3. Guess what after hammering an X3 through a slalom course and through tight turns at 80 + on a back road........ I bought the BMW hands down no contest. The CX-7 is nice, but it ain't a Bimmer.

he's either sniffing solvents or car fumes - according to car mag tests on the skidpad:

X3 sport = 0.88g
CX - 7 = 0.79g

Anybody look at, test drive or consider the Lincoln MKX (it's a dressed up CX7)?

Actually the MKX/Edge are merely cousins to the CX-7. They are based on the Mazda 6 with a 3.5L V6, while the CX-7 is more Mazda3/5 with a turbo 2.3L inline-4.

I considered the Edge/MKX until I heard how horrible their braking distance is. 60-0 is longer than a Suburban. I saw the Edge/MKX at the LA Auto Show and felt the Edge's interior was just as cheap as the CX-7. The MKX was better, but the price increase over it's twin the Edge was too much for basically an Edge with a better interior. The MKX has more options, but on MKX/Edge some options like Xenons cannot be had at any price.
