Please let me know if you are interested in joining me in a group buy on the European version of the alarm system for E46 convertibles.
This alarm kit (BMW# 65-60-0-021-150) differs from the one sold in the US in that it includes two radar-based motion sensors, which make the alarm much more useful. The system is sold only outside the US -- neither Pacific BMW nor Circle were able to get it for me.
The group cost would be about $350.00 (including the matching trim piece and slow shipping from Europe), which seems to be a very good price for this.
See the Alarm New Car thread on the New Buyers forum for more discussion of the alarm. Let me know soon, as I want to order soon.

A little timing problem - I won't have my 2004 330Cic until June. Will be in Munich in April or May to pick it up though....:D

Not really a problem. The price depends on surface shipping anyway. Please see private message I've sent you.

What do the items cost in Munich, if anyone knows?

The data points I have are that RKT BMR had his dealer order the kit from Germany for ~ $475, and that you can buy them from Canadian dealers for between $500 and $600 US.

Good to know. Thanks. I am not getting a car until the summer (hopefully) so I'm not a in a position to do the group buy right now. Good luck, though.

And my kit was actually the Euro retrofit for '99 E46 cabs, which were not pre-wired -- so it came with a complete set of wiring harnesses as well. I'm assuming that the kit you're looking at is more up to date.
Otherwise, the rest of the parts are the same.
BTW, didn't have to use the wiring harnessses in my '01 330 -- it was prewired, of course.

Anyone shown any interest in the group buy, yet?

Is this the cost for the full alarm system or just the motion sensor upgrades?
I didn't get one installed at purchase as i was considering aftermarket... but i'm thinking now that i'd rather have an OEM alarm.
Would anyone concur that this is the best route or would aftermarket work just as well? I'm most concerned about having an extra piece to attach to my keychain. Would an aftermarket alarm be progammable into the key?

Definitely. I'm in for the complete Euro alarm kit for a 2001 330 convertible, sand interior. As long as the group buy isn't from Nikis Place in Denmark. I ordered an alarm from them more than two months ago. They charged my credit card two months ago. They've not yet shipped the alarm to me, so I cancelled my order yesterday. If there's someplace where I can actually get an alarm kit, I'm all for it.

Actually, the group buy was from Nikis-Place, and they did send the stuff in the time-frame they promised. That was back toward the beginning of the year, however.
Did they say what the hold-up was?

Their payment system cleared my credit card on 5/1. I waited to hear back from them, perhaps for too long, and then inquired what the status of my order was. On 6/5 they claimed "delay in email correspondence due to several national holidays and vacation time" on the part of the customer service rep. So I gave them a couple of weeks and then asked again. On 6/23 the answer was "been on vacation for 3 weeks and had 1000 email when I came back." Order was supposed to be shipped by the middle of the next week. Two weeks later I asked again, and received no answer, so two days later I asked for a refund. On 7/9 the story was "we'll refund you right away." They said they had been sent the wrong version of the alarm and had initiated a replacement, but that this is the "vacation month" and things are running at 10% normal speed. Since they had had free use of my money for two months by this point, and I had a really bad taste in my mouth, the refund is fine with me and I'd really rather give someone else my business. I have a hard time understanding being treated that way by a company, and they haven't even asked for understanding. They pretty much just left me in the dark until I couldn't take it any more.

I didn't check the date when i replied last month either. From the posts in the thread, it looks like the buy has already been made. (Original post was from January of this year).

Well shoot me already, NE1 wants to do this group buy again?

There's a post in one of the other forums about a Canadian alarm kit (same as Euro, I think). I talks about a minor problem with the wiring (about 1/2 was down page 2) You may want to read it first. Sounds like he's suggesting getting buying the sensors after getting the standard US alarm.

Just be sure to avoid Nikis-place like the plague. In addition to what I reported above, it has now been two months since I requested (and was promised) a refund, and it has not materialized. I'm having to dispute it with my credit card company.
Does anyone have another suggestion of where to purchase the european alarm?
