I am waiting for delivery of my sunken 330i from the Tricolor (had to reorder) and i figured to help pass the time I would sign up with the BMWCCA...I have a couple questions...
I am in the SF Bay Area, and on the BMWCCA website, I see you can also join your local chapter...I was a little unclear if you automatically are enrolled when you join or if this an additional membership and fee? Also, i believe there are several chapters located in the Bay Area...can someone recommend one? I live on the Peninsula (Redwood City) In return for the info, i would be happy to put your member # down as a referal...
Any other additional info that you think is useful?
Thanks for the help!

I can't comment on SF area but in the Baltimore area there are several chapters in fairly close proximity so it probably works the same way.

You only pay to join the CCA and then you are automatically affiliated with whatever chapter covers your area. You do not have a choice unless you want to join additional chapters, then there is a small fee for each additional chapter you join....

I believe the way it works is that you will "belong" to the chapter that is geographically closest to where you live, but don't quote me on that.

When I joined the CCA, I called the LA chapter (the only one close to me;-)) membership chairman to see what needs to be done to become official with the chapter. He indicated that it should happen automatically, but then he made sure I started getting the chapter newsletter immediately.

In your case, I would call CCA National and ask which chapter you will officially belong to and find out when that will automagically happen. You can join other chapters, but that is supposed to cost and extra $13.50 per chapter you want to join. (Note that if you take driving classes that are hosted by other chapters, you are supposed to join those other chapters, but some chapters are less strict about this than others, though I'm told that the rules will be tightenned up realtively soon.)

Most of the time this seems to work but its not a guarantee. I have a friend who lives here in LA (not even OC) but somehow ended up in the San Diego chapter.

And in the Bay area, if you include some of the outlying areas there are more than a couple of different chapters so if you live in between it may be a crapshoot.

The local chapters are updated monthly with a list from BMWCCA.

If there's an event, etc. that you're wanting access to in the
interim, you can contact BMWCCA and they'll advise your
local chapter that you're a member, (via email, etc.).

When you join CCa they will put you in the local chapter that you are in the local vacinity of.

You can opt to join another local chapter though

You will be automatically registered with BMWCCA-Golden Gate Chapter; this happened when I joined two years ago. And your name will be published in the local newsletter listing of new members. I've done two driving events with the local chapter Carmel/Monterey and Tomales Bay/Sonoma). I'm in your neighborhood (Foster City).

When you get your "membership package" from BMWCCA, goto the golden gate chapter website and sign up for My GGC with your BMWCCA number. That's it.
