I'm considering an 04 545i. 25k miles 6 spd manual for $39K. I've had three 7 series and am tired of falling asleep while driving. Time to have fun again. Can't find any certified 05 545i's w/ manual so I'm going with the 2004.

Any feedback on this decision.

Thanks

This is nearly the exact car I bought back last October, my first BMW, and I have no regrets. We also drove a used 2003 745 iL at the same visit to the dealer, and it was immediately obvious that the 545 provided the superior driving experience. I was with my wife during the test drive and about half-way when the salesman asked if I wanted to switch drivers I said "no way". During the 745 test drive, I was more than happy to give up the wheel!

What features are on the 545 that you are considering? Since it is a 2004, find out if the manufacture date is pre 03/04 or after, this will be important if you ever want bluetooth on this e60. Also, ask if the vehicle is pre-wired for satellite radio? Because if the car is not, then you will not be able to get one install to work with the i-drive system. I purchased my CPO 2004 e60 about two years ago and these were issue I dealth with after the fact.

+1 MP3 capability, iPOD, bluetooth should be paramount. Do not get stuck with an early build.

Only caution I might mention - active steering and tire ware - Dunlops. I owned a 2004 545i and BMW replaced the tires twice because of this - every 8000 miles. Check out this site for a lot of discussion on the issue. Otherwise, it was a great car.
