I'm seriously considering ordering a 2008 550i, but wondering what the 'actual' car looks like, as opposed to the marketing photos.
I would really like to see what this car looks like with the new Sport Pkg.

Thanks!

Because the cars have not made it to the USA yet, the exception probably being those presented at Detroit/LA auto shows.

I think we have to rely on BMW official photos for vehicle details. I am sure you realize that the press shots are quite glossy and have been doctored to look perfect, but they are your best bet unless someone else thinks otherwise.

Good Luck:thumbup:

I have these photo's from another site I belong to...not sure if they are BMW pics or not. And they are small...sorry.

Real life photos are not out yet cause the car is just going into production soon March build dates. Until then here are the best photo's I've seen on the net of the update re-fresh 5 series. Click the pics to make them bigger, you can see alot more detail.

Also I've read that a "first drive" review will be out on the face-lift 5 series here, keep checking back under test review, it's showing coming soon Feb 25 today but not posted up yet:

I am seriously considering going for the 2008 5 series. I currently have an E46 sedan and keep going back and forth on what my next car will be, have tested E90 sedan and E92 coupe, Lexus GS350 and IS350. I want something sporty but more luxury than my current E46, also want something slightly larger inside then the E46 and I want a sporty steering wheel like what come on the sports pkg bmw's. All in all I think the face-lift 2008 5 series 535i with sports pkg and comfort seats will probably be my choice, I really like how they changed some interior design elements like the door handles which gives it a cleaner look and feel from the 07 interior.

Is the M-package available in the US?

Colour is Deep Sea Blue.

That car looks like it's sitting pretty high, notice the gap between the tires and wheel well/opening? I assume that's because it still has the transport spring spacers in. ???

I still have my heart set on a 535, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to like that video game joystick gear shifter...

Nope. I am still getting the car, but that is the one thing that sort of turns me off...Some people don't like iDrive. Some people whine and complain about other things. The new shifter is my personal pet peeve with the new 5 series, but it isn't a deal breaker.

That is one reason I am waiting for the June production for the sport auto shifter that will have leather boot wrapped around it. I think it looks better than the joystick with no leather boot.

Here is a pic of the new Sport Auto available in June, shown at the NY auto show. I like the little leather boot. It also looks more sportier than the dildo joystick.

The leather "boot" or wrapping does make it look beter.

But I'm actually more concerned about the act and the overall feel of shifting. Now I realize I'm getting auto--so it isn't like I'm going to be shifting that much. But I guess I want the feel of something firm, solid and tangible when I am shifting in and out of gear. If shifting into drive is basically like moving a whimpy little joystick, then that seems flimsy to me. I guess I just need to get over it.

Yeah your going to have to test it to be sure but do you really want the thin joystick there putting in there now? I don't, at least this sport auto pic above looks thicker and would feel meatier in your hands than that joystick. Either one is not going to be a 6 speed manual but I still think the sport auto will look and feel sportier and pleasing to the eye. Test drives have yet to be determined.

I think it is the exact same shifter, just with a boot. Plus you get the paddles on the steering wheel.

I note that the 550i with aero package displayed at the New York Auto Shoe doesn't seem to have the rear spoiler as described and shown on page 12 of the on-line brochure and the rear bumber doesn't look the same as shown in the brochure and the BMWNA website.
I guess my CA was right when he said "I guess when you pick-up your car in Munich you'll get whatever BMW decides to deliver to you."
