Does he mean auto as for when the sun goes down as it gets dark the lights themselves come on??? I can only wonder is that what he is asking for. I do know if you turn the headlight switch all the way to the left the headlights will activate on their own when the sensor get a low light signal.

Same here brother I only realized I had that feature when I was on my way back from Raliegh, NC to base and realized the lights were on by themselves cause I knew I didn't turn the lights on knowing where the light switch is since I owned a 540I before I got the M5, so yeah it's a kool feature but one I don't bother to use. I find it nicer to roll with the Angel Eyes and Fog Lights on rather then use the head lights. Every car these days have the blue plasma lights but how many have the read deal Angle Eyes.

I've never been a big fan of using the auto on feature on any of my cars, for the exact reason that you mentioned. Generally when I'm running with my headlights, I always have my foglights on in addition, and unfortunately most if not all auto-on features do not trigger the foglights in addition to the headlights, but generally just the headlights and taillights.

My auto-on turns on the fogs also. (Assuming the fog switch is "on")
