ideally trying to order a 535xi with the 18' rft AND a spare (not sure if 5 series has spare or space saver or...nothing)

anyone?

yes I know it's a bit of dumb question. but it's the reason I will/wont' order.

just HATE not having a spare around for all the long trips I take. and ideally don't want to shove one in the trunk and kill all the space.

thnx

I agree - no spare is a bummer, and a donut is half a bummer.

http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/5/530xiSedan/features.htm

I don't know about what they offer in "aaa", but in the US, you can check the link above and Note 3 at the bottom indicates the current 530xi has a donut.

Or the BYO tool, check the 18" wheel option details:
18" Star Spoke Wheels
18x 8.0 Star Spoke (Styling 123) alloy wheels, 245/40R-18 performance run-flat tires
Requires Sport Package.
Spare is a space-saver wheel and tire.

I suspect this is basically the same for 08 535xi.

Yes - confirmed in the brochure here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192022 on the "Wheels" page.

According to the BMW price list. the 2008, 528xi shows an option package 2SE, that includes 18" Light alloy wheels Star Spoke (style 246) with run flat performance tires (18x8.0, 245/40 R18), and it states that this option requires ZSP. (the Sport Package) Good luck.

Thanks..do u think rft are the way to go rather than regular ones..was hoping to get rft without having to get the sports package as dont wan spend more..is there a way to get the rft alone without the package..help is appreciated

We opted for the 18" wheels because we felt that the OE wheels were butt ugly. I would have prefered to purchase them with all seasons, but the wheel package included RFT's. And the package (4 wheels and tires) was only (ED) $545. I couldn't have bought two model 124 wheels for that. I plan on dumping the Run Flats as soon as we return from our ED and buying all season non RFT's. Living in Wisconsin, with all the snow and ice we get in winter make Hi-Performance RFT's a poor all year 'round option for us.

I have dealt with two sets of wheels and tires numerous times in the past, and no longer want to carry them up and down the basement stairs twice a year anymore.

To address your original question, my current feeling on RFT's is definitely negative, but that's just my opinion, and I'm sure you'll hear a lot of other opinions. I suggest you search some of the RFT horror stories here on bimmerfest. Then make up your own mind.

Gentlemen:

I think the 124 wheel option when ordered with ZSP package 535xi comes with 2 rear RFT tires and the 2 fronts are normal tires. This package also includes a conventional spare to cover the normal front tires...so 2 run flats in back and 2 normal tires in rear. Sounds crazy byt that's how I read this.
