I am picking up a 2008 535i with Premium/Cold Weather/Navigation/Multi-contour and wonder if the Premium sound option is worth the extra $1090.00 ED price? Non of the 2007 530i models in San Diego available for test drive has the premium sound. I am perplexed!!

On the 5-series, yes. Do a search.

The standard deck in the 5 series is much improved over my '03 3 series, standard system. You don't get the special effects of the Logic 7, and not quite the detail, but I am surprised how good it sounds after reading some of the negative comments here.
That said, when I do a custom order, I will include the system 7, just so I can say I have it.

Logic7 is the best OEM sound system I've ever heard--definitely worth it if you enjoy listening to music.

If you are a casual music listener, the standard audio is more than adequate. Comparing to my previous 2003 E39 with the premium sound package, it is light years ahead and I'm very pleased with it.

If you can comfortably afford it or doesn't make a financial difference to you...don't even let this be a question just do it. I had an E39 ('02) and the sound system sucks. I'm still in Europe and have just picked up my E60 (2007), HUGE difference. Even the iPod played through the Aux imput via the headphone jack sounds good...base for days, treble forever and a nice full balance.

I have the standard sound system for US cars and it sounds pretty good to me. I generally use my iPod connected through the AUX port. The bass response improved dramatically after I did the AUX mod.

After having said this, my next car will have Logic7

I have the Logic 7 in my 530i and I thought it was great until I got the Premium Sound System in the X3 IMO it is far better than the Logic 7 and has more settings that you can go to to make it that way. Again MO
cheers

"Not disaapointed" What an interesting choice of word.

What type of listener are you? I am a news and sports radio person, therefore, standard is perfect for me. I listen to music when I am on long distance driving that happen about once or twice a month.

I had the same question. I went to Cunningham BMW in El Cajon yesterday and listened to the same CD/song on two different 530's back-to-back. One car had the upgraded system and one didn't. The difference was night-and-day to me so I ordered my 535i with the upgrade... Believe me, it's worth the difference in price.

Logic 7 is a must for me. I haven't made up my mind in terms of things like HUD, Active Crusie Control, etc., but Logic 7 is a must. So is NAV, Premium, Sport Package, step, comfort acess, and cold weather package.

Plus, if I'm spending $50k+ on a car, there is no way I'm cutting corners on things like sound system...No way at all!

Shouldn't L7 be included in car at this price point? It is in the 3 right?

Your right. The bmw 5 series, should be std, with the logic 7. The std sytem is horrible. It is a joke, that a car in this price range, has such a shi__y std, audio sytem.

It is included in the 335i. Why the hell is it standard on a 335i and an option ($1000+) on the 535i? Makes no sense at all.

Agreed.

Doesn't make any sense at all.

Thought for sure this '08 refresh would also include L7 after seeing it in the 335. Even if it is only std in the 335, thought the new 5 at all levels deserved the same treatment. An extra grand on top of an already overpriced car seems a bit much.

The ONLY reason to not get it,

is if you're going to put a sick system in that would blow you're ears.

The Lexus is mine and the BMW will be for wifey. I am 6'3" tall with a big ass so the Lexus is for trips and for tooling around town (I'm retired.)

the standard 10-speaker audio is good enough, but if you plan to get the 550i then definitely get it as most 550i I saw in the dealership, ebay, autotrader have it. But for a 525/528 or 530/535 I don't think it's necessary if you use mp3/ipod as the sound quality of mp3s sucked. If you listen to real audio CD (not burned by conversion from MP3) then I guess the L7 is worth it.

It is absolutely worth it. I've been a serious hi-fi guy for over 35 years now, and this is the best OEM car audio I have ever heard.

Harman International knocked one out of the park with their Logic 7 system for BMW. It came standard in my 330i and I will gladly shell out the grand for one in my 550.

I had a 525i loaner last week w/ standard stereo, and it sounded far inferior to the Logic7 in my car.

I don't get your reasoning at all.
