I was browsing the BMW internations web page and reading through the refreshed 550i and m5 touring and to my surprise the performance numbers for the 550i have been updated. The refreshed 550i runs 0-100kph in 5.2 vs 5.5 for the last one although the engine and transmission (and body structure) are identical!!! Any ideas???

Rubbish. You should read either more posts or order more car mags.

Wait for the reviewers to test the cars. And seriously, is 0.3 secs THAT crucial to merging from an onramp?

To make room for the 535i.
535 may be quoted as either 5.5 or 5.6 sec

Could this be the result of the Sport Automatic Transmission which is per someone at the Geneva auto show an DSG-clone?

That is imposible, an auto can be as good as a manual and the numbers quoted are always manual. It doesn't make sense since the mechanicals and engine are the same between 2007-2008...

Has anybody used the CAI, throttle body, software of DINAN on his 550i? Any input?

Pure marketing BS.

Pay attention only to reputable and independent testers like Car and Driver.

And the throttle body, S/W upgrade is not significant enough to feel.

I just went through the Brochure and it states the 0-60 mph time as 5.6 sec for the 535i MT and 5.7 for Steptronic AT, whilst the 550i is 5.4 sec for the MT and 5.5 for the AT.

Road and Track showed the 550i at 5.0 seconds 0-60 ('07). Oh, and that's the automatic.

BMW Official numbers are always understated by 0.3-0.4 sec.

Most likely. Then again, the 550i probably always ran a 5.2, and BMW just underrated it.
