OK, so we all know its an unwritten law not to try passing your 318 as an M3 but how about people who stick 328s on their 325s....or 318s on their 316s (for euro owners) since the 'gap' between both these models appear to be pretty close. I think its somewhat acceptable, as long as they don't try sticking a 328 or 325 badge on anything with 4 cylinders.

I'm not sure I get what your point is. De-badging is fine. You seem to be talking about re-badging, in which follows the typical argument...

Those that would be impressed would know the difference, those that can't tell, won't be impressed.

Oh yeah..my mistake. The appropriate term is 'Re-badging'

I once saw a purple 316i at the dealer that someone had rebadged as a 525i. This didn't confuse the tech working on it, but I suppose he has seen them all.

IMO badging ANYTHING other than an M3 with a M3 badge should be a hangable offence!!

As for badging a 325i as a 328i, i think ffej put it perfectly

Both hubby's 5 series and my car are de-badged. With my racey red paintwork, spoiler, lots of noise from the CAI etc people THINK it is faster than what it is!! I just like to leave them pondering at the lights just to annoy them and when they pull away [coz I've let them] they think they have won. That is always my good deed for the day

Seriously thought I do not ever feel I have anything to prove. I love my car for what she is. HOWEVER, if I had an M3 I would have badges on every panel just to pi55 everyone off!!!!

Untill I joined this forum and learned the rules, I was pondering placing a Motorsport banner on my windshield. I'm happy to say that I never did, nor will..

Wouldnt it be more fun to underbadge it? Make a 540 into a 520? Or rebadge an M3 as a 318?

When my car gets fast enough to race I'm gonna badge it 323i and put money down on it. The civic will never know what hit him.

haha, I have a friend w/ an rx7 turbo. He took of the turbo signs. And never repainted it from its horrible state after restoring it. He's won $10,000 from racing it. And he only raced for money in it about 15times.

A funny thing happened during a discussion with one of my friends today. She drives a beat up Chevy Prizm but wants to join our small circle of E36 owners in my town. So I suggested that we could make her an honorary member by getting her to remove both the Chevy & Prizm badges from her car then replace them with a BMW roundel & 325 badge from one of my old cars.

talking about de-badging, today we went to a family freinds birthday and i left my bimmer next to my uncles e46 on the kerb. Anyways some prick had the balls to go up to his car and steal his rear bmw emblem. He was pissed. Mine was untouched:dunno:

Iron-Mouse
03-18-2007, 02:25 AM
Maybe his E46 emblem was easier to remove than one off an E36? I remembered turning red in the face when I tried removing the roundel off my E36 to replace it with a carbon fiber one.

nah, there was no evidence of tampering on mine, but in my uncles there was a deep scratch where the badge was. So they must of used something like a screw driver. They would of been in and out within a few seconds

Should be a hangable offence Dom!!

I have always De-Badged.........never Re-Badged...... that is total BS.....if you want it, then pony up the bucks.

I really dis-like posers.

IMHO: I'd rather people and police rather not know what I was packing under the hood!
