Welcome to the Fest :)

Your car is indeed an E36 with a SOHC in-line 4 1.8 engine. I think it is the M42 engine but I am sure one of the guys will correct me if I am wrong!!

Any queries just ask the guys on the Fest - the are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about their Bimmers

Tis an M42 indeed

140bhp @ 6000 rpm
129lb/ft Torque @ 4500 rpm

Gutsy engine that!!!

How do you mean it "Knocks Hard" buddy?

damn another SOHC  my del sol had a 1.6 SOHC vtec . Is my bimmer slow as hell ?? is it even worth adding a turbo ?? i plan on buying a 2000 cadillac deville next summer and im getting a 2002 honda cbr 600 this summer so maybe I'll just put in a motor and leave it at that .

odd how they changed the CC in 1996.

That 1.9 is very decent too, Dom will testify to that!

My personaly opinion. If your going to be racing it or just wanting it real quick, upgrade to better engine like a M50, M52 or S52. That can get rather expensive though. Tubocharging it gets even more expensive. And your already buying two new cars on top of that. So if you have a whole lot of money lying around that you feel like spending on the car go for it. Otherwise I'd just find a new M42 engine for it and get the car running great.

Engine mounts for sure. New comp too i think. Trans im not sure. Don't know what Trans they put in the 318's.. I know if you go from a m52- a s52 you don't need a new trans. Not sure about if you go from a m42-m50 ect.

M50 has 189hp. The M52 has 190hp (but a good amount more torque) the S52 (is expensive) has 240hp.

yes you can.... it wont be easy///
clutch line, pump, and many other parts that i cannot think of at current moment.

everything that has to do with cluch must be installed.

if you wanna do it. do it when u are changing the engine. if you are trying to turbo/superchasrge it, dont the the vanos engine.

I didn't know the VANOS engine were not good for turbos/superchargers. I would have thought they were better

You learn something every day!!

as far as i know non-vanos engines have "beefier" parts and bigger cams and they are easier/better to modify.
