View Full Version : Vanos? What is this Vanos you speak of?

OK, I'm looking to do some performance mods to my M50 and keep finding this whole Vanos thing comming into significant play here. What is Vanos and how to I know if I have it? The sticker on my car says it was born in like April of 1993 and it's a DOHC M50 from a 1993 325is (E36). Do I have this Vanos?

hi buddy

The single VANOS system adjusts the opening and closing of the Intake Valves to ensure the most power comes out of the engine throughout the rev-band

I think your car has the M50TU as opposed to the M50 and so does have the VANOS system. The TU engine came in 1992 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M50

Yes, you have VANOS, any car produced 9/92 or newer will have it.
