I came across an E36 at an insurance auction last year that had some minor front end damage. It had an M3 badge and interior but the VIN indicated it was a 94 325is. The dealership that I worked for had purchased it and later we found out the idiot owner had tried putting in a 1998 M52 motor but botched up on trying to hook up the harness. The circuits were fried and there was a huge wiring mess under the dash.
So we suspected he tried committing insurance fraud after realizing he didnt know how to fix the problem. He did it by pushing the damn thing down a slope so that it would hit a pole or tree (hence the front end damage). He then claimed insurance money and the car ended up at an insurance auction which we had purchased it from. The sneaky bastard actually got away with it because the insurance company was too dumb to see the big picture.
Moral of the story: Push your old E36 down a slope too if you cant fix it then call your insurance company. ROFL
