Note to self: Must not turn to the Dark Side.....Must stop thinking of getting a Mercedes W202 (a.k.a 1st Gen C-Class)....must stay loyal to BMW...the temptation is killing me.

I cant get this image of a shiny black C280 with S600 style chrome grilles and crystal headlights out of my head. Shoot me please.

IMO BMWs are partly luxury and part perfomance... its for young people.

Mercedes is 100***37; luxury car (dont remind me about McLaren or those supercars!) and preferred by middle age/old people.

its like young people buy Honda and olders buy Toyota.
So, do you want the luxury or perfomance?

If you really want and HAVE to swap your BMW for a luxury car...go for the Lexus. The service I've seen from BMW dealerships is terrible. It's simply unacceptable. Period! It is trumped only by Mercedes stories I've heard.

On the other hand, if you get a Lexus, I've heard stories about these guys bending over backwards so far it's crazy! My former commander had a transmission problem. Instead of installing a used part on their brand new tranny, Lexus gave them a whole new transmission! It was hard to find this particular transmission and so it took like 4 months. In the meantime, they were given a 2007 SUV to drive, a $1,000USD service credit, and an additional 500USD parts credit. All because Lexus wanted to do a job right. They clearly know how to treat people there.
On last story:
I bought my 528i from a Lexus dealer. They had a BMW mechanic come in at my request and look over the car. The car has been perfect since I bought it. Not to mention whenever my fiance drives the car down to the Lexus dealer, she gets it washed regardless if she gets service done there!
When it comes time to turn the e36 into a track only car, my new daily driver will be a Lexus.

I love my E36 too much to even think of selling it so that I can get a Benz. It's just that I was thinking about what the Mercedes W202 (a.k.a the E36's main competitor) has to offer that my car doesn't already have. And those pics on ebay of it with chrome S600 grilles do look great.

But anyways, the only way I'd get one would be from a dealer's insurance auction because prices are usually so low. I don't plan on spending as much on it compared to an E36. I could then slap on some chrome grilles & euro headlights, drive it around a bit (to satisfy my curiosity) then resell for at least $1500 profit <----yes kids, thats the typical dealer profit margin

Hmmm....you know what the easier way would be? I'd just drop by that big Manheim auction in Chicago and find me a W202 to beat around their track & parking lot....but I won't be making my $1500 *sigh*

I've never actually even driven a Benz so I don't know, but I've only ever heard bad things. And I hate lexus :-\

Lexus = Toyota

Good cars but in the same league as a bimmer

My friend owns a ES300, 95 like my car, and I would never trade mine for his. It's basically just a Toyota Camry with a fancy name  And his sunroof doesn't work lol

Oh yeah....If you looked under the hood of a 96 Camry V6 XLE and a Lexus ES300 of the same year, you'll see the same 1MZE motor.

I'm not a big Lexus fan although I do happen to like the shape of their SC, IS & RX series.

If you look under the hood of almost any lexus, save the LS and GS, it is the same in the toyota. Even the New ones. The RX350, ES 350, Camry, Rav4, and the Avalon, they all have the exact same V6.

Believe me, Mercedes are nice cars, but boring to drive. And Mercedes has basically abandoned the Manual transmission. Also, who wants a V-6. They are for front drive cars.
