: 2007 530 or 2008 528

I can either get a
2007 530 with the Premium Package, Cold Weather Package,Automatic/Steptronic, Navigation, Bi-Xenon lights, Park Distance Control for 45000
or a
2008 528, Auto, Leather, Comfort Seats, Heated front seats, xenon, and nav for 45000

Do I go for the newer model year or the 530 with more options and a bigger engine?
Decisions Decisions.

By the way this is military sales and please dont say "buy the 535", 45k is my limit.

Used 2005 545i with sport, heated seats, premium, nav, xenons, and logic 7 is the way to go I think.

Well, technically the engine size is the same (3.0 liter) regardless of badging, but the 530i will get you more horsepower. Judging solely by the stuff you listed, I'd say go for the '07 because the '08 refresh doesn't do much, and you're not getting the options on the '08 that are actually updated (like sport auto transmission).

I'd rethink your option list on that '07 though, just IMO.

Try driving 07 525 and 07 530. If you don't feel the difference, get 08 528. If you feel 530 is more powerful that is important to you, get 07 530.

Keep in mind that the jump from the 525 to the 528 is 15 HP (215 to 230HP), and the jump from the 528 to the 530 is 25HP (230 to 255HP). I'm not sure about the torque differences.

If you can wait for the 528 to come out and test drive it next to the 530. If you can't, test drive the 525 and the 530, and imagine if you had more power than the 525 but not as much as the 530 and if that would make you happy.

personally, i would get the 530i, i mean the only real difference in the 08 is sport trans, very mild facelift, and i think regenerative brakes... The driving will be more fun in the 530i since it has more power and it basically is the same car as the 528i

530i! ;)

reason for 07 is because higher horsepower, plus a better nametag... 528i is suppose to be the "base model" 525i level while 530i is a step up from the base model, well no offense to 525s but when comparing a base model with higher model, I'd suggest getting a higher one, considering facelift is very minor for the E60 for the very similar price (07 530 vs 08 528)

It's a matter of priorities. If performance is critical then the choice is obvious. Otherwise I would consider the following -

Even though you should order the car the way that you want it and not for the next guy, a 5 series without xenon lights is a :tsk: :yikes: . It's a very important option (it's standard on all the other 5'ers).

Comfort seats, while being amazing is really a personal preference option as is PDC.

If you can cheat on your budget by adding $700 to the 528 I would add the xenons and get the 528i. If that's not possible and since you're considering a 530i without comfort seats, maybe you would consider a 528i without the comfort seats but with the xenons (and save about $400 as well). Either way if performance is not critical in your decision I would go with the 528i (with xenon lights).

I have a 530 and would never have given a thought to a 525, but I might go with the 528 if in your situation. Since you are not looking for a sport package or a manual trans, it is leaning more a toward luxury ride and a few extra horsepower might not be a big deal. The 2008 refresh isn't huge, but would certainly be nice.

It really does come down to your personal priorities -- make sure you understand them before buying the car.

I'd go with the 530i as well.

is the 530 really that much faster than the new 528?

Is the 530 new or CPO?

From what I have read, the 2008 528 is just as quick as the 530i ( or essentially as quick if you get the manual and almost as quick if you get the auto). The newer car also has less weight on the front end which means better handling/responsiveness. I would definitely go with the new car!

08 528 is faster! I was planned to get 530 in 07 ( because 530 lease was very attractive, starting was around mid 4 hundred) but hear 08 is coming with better interior and exterior design so I waited. I checked with the performance between 08 528 and 07 530 and 528 won over the 07 530! Then I went to order mine 528i with the following options: deep sea metallic, black dakota leather, auto tran, sport package, 18 ich 5 star wheels navigation system, and parking assist. Got the car in the end of December 07 and very satisfied with it.
