Yes.
1. Is the darn thing faster overall?
2. Does it boot faster?
3. Does the accept screen still go away?
4. Does the iDrive remember the last menu?
5. Can you search for points of interest now?
6. Does your car still run after the update?
7. Is your car faster than an M6 now?

What was your previous version? Can you post some photos? In what way are the streets "color coded"?

1. seems like it..
when you are on the home page... if you click right a (1 mississippi count) it then automatically goes to the NAV section.
2-3. When i let my car sit for a little bit it was ~20 seconds(18 seconds the second time) before i saw the 10 second long disclaimer..
4. Yes.. after the disclamer it went right to the Nav map on screen (direction of travel for me)
5. i did notice that it's now a "little" more intuitive with points of interest this option is located in more menus now.. You can actually search for POS WITHIN a certain range from you now!!! pics below
6. Either way.. i got 40k on it... so in a little less than 10k... i'm getting rid of it. or someone may :flame: it by mistake.. :dunno:
I think previous version was 20? i have to dig through my old posts.
Figure a search for coffee shops doesn't bring up the local *new* starbucks... they over cook their beans anyway... did Bear hear me say that? Maybee he doesn't want to hear the new news......" McDonalds is now adding espresso's and iced lattes to the menu"

I was considering getting an update as well and i am just wondering do i get it from my local BMW dealership or from where. Also is it free or you have to pay. If you have to pay, how much is it? Thank you.

You mean they got rid of the unwashed off the streets?

Looks a lot nicer.
Does your idrive controller react faster now when scrolling through things, like sat radio stations or POI's in the Nav?
After my last update, it seems to react slower when you scroll beyond the display screen.
Also, do your CD's now resume where you left off when you turned off the car?

FYI,
Folks are already posting on other forums about bugs.
i.e. Fan light stays on when car is off. Real time traffic breaking. Voice commands breaking.
I would also check all the exterior lights on the car. No telling what other bugs there are. :tsk:
I shall sit this one out for a couple months. I suspect 25.x will be short lived.

I guess I should spend more time checking out my 6. I took it last sat to have the Ipod adapter installed. The service guy called later to say that they must update the software 1st (no charge under warranty). They needed to keep it until monday which was fine. I picked it up, Ipod is great, love how it remembers what tune you were listening when you turn the car off then back on.
I haven't discovered any of the mentioned glitches yet, if I do I'll post!

Can you look up POIs alphabetically? Finding places in a big city is a real pain without that. My 2002 M5 Nav had that feature but in the 650i I can only search by distance to the POI and have to scroll past 150 other POIs (restaurants for example) that are closer and guess which one of the 37 Starbucks in town it's refering to.

I got a 25 update last week up from 20.something. I think 20.2.
1) It's hard to say if the UI speed is faster yet. Speed of navigating through the menus has always been scattershot. Sometimes as fast as the user sometimes lagging. I will say that so far I have not "been ahead" of the UI. That is, it has been responding as fast as I was giving it input. So that is encouraging.
2) I can confirm that it does boot faster. Or to be more precise, it yields control to the user faster than before. I would say most of the time the T&Cs screen is up and the radio is playing almost instantly after the FOB is put in place (less than 2 seconds). There was one case where it was 15 to 18 seconds, but so far that is the only time there was a bad wait. So they definitely improved something architecturally with this release.
4) So far it is doing just that.
5) I haven't tried any nav features yet.
Odd stuff:
There is a buzzing sound for a few seconds when opening the door sometimes. Sounds like a little motor or fan. Might be a drive spinning up? I haven't cracked the code on it. Have encountered no other problems.

Yea there are more updates coming... i forgot to tell you guys mp3 cd's are working... but the car doesn't see/recognize folders on mp3 cd's only sees what is in the first folder of mp3's.. as my 2007 525 loaner did see the folders.
So there are more updates in the works.. they will call me back in a few weeks.
But NAV is MUCH better and iDrive is more responsive.

Has anyone figured out why they force a split screen on the Nav? My friends think im retarded that I have two identical maps showing side by side ...

So you can have your audio on one side while the Nav is on the other.

Not sure what you mean. Nav is the only option in which you can have a map on the left and right. When the map is on the left, you can have other nav options like position on the right.
You cannot have two different nav maps on the left and right though.

What's displayed in the smaller right screen is sort of permanently selected - in my case it's the position view. The larger left screen is depending on the selected menu: If required I'm mostly switching between entertainment and the (larger = more useful) map in the left screen by moving the controller for >2 seconds to the right or back.
No complaints about being retarded so far (well at least not because of iDrive :D)

I used to have the trip computer on in my right screen. One of the things it monitors is the gas mileage. That was the 650i. I can't stand it with the M6, so I now am looking for something else.
Spaceandahalf thinks -- and I agree with him -- that there should be an option to do away with the split screen and just have one screen (a spaceandahalf in size) fill the entire area. So, you could either have a larger scale map up or more features within the map, or both. I suspect this is merely a programming issue, but having had a tempermental iDrive in the past I don't want anyone to mess the CCC up in the future (with all those Microtrash fixes that have unintended consequences) so that PROGMAN 28.00.02 turns my car into a 360 HP kitten.

They should remove iDrive altogether in the M6. With the space saved from lack of screen, you could add a 1/2 gallon auxiliary fuel tank.

Easy. So you can show 2 different things. If the map is on the right, Nav will go to a map when guiding but you can go to entertainment, etc and still have a map display on the right. If you don't like the map on the right, you can change it to directions, current position, trip computer display, etc. Just push right to highlight the map and press select to pop up your choices. I think there is a way to disable the split screen entirely but I don't recall how off the top of my head.

It's one of the choices on the menu when you press controller with the right screen highlighted. I gleaned this, and countless other useless facts while reading the owner's manual for the first time during wifey's turn at the wheel on our drive to SF/Big Sur last week.
Some useful info:
1. Verified that there is NO mention of a dipstick under the hood, a pet peeve of mine. I suspect that all 6's have a dipstick, but not every owner knows where it is.
2. Made my first call into BMW Assist. Wifey loved the fact that if you're half dead after an accident, the call is made automatically.
3. Learned how to use the "information" features and "map guided" destination in the Navigation part of iDrive. I found the latter particularly useful.

Don't be such a dipstick. When he was here, and while we were on Piuma Road looking for your manse, GMAN showed me how to use the Nav and input with verbal commands! Sadly, I have forgotten it all. And, when I looked for "tourist attractions" in Information as we got near your house, the Nav system began to flash TOP SECRET. Let's hope the GMAN will tell us the verbal commands for the Nav.
