Well folks, I never thought that I would feel the need to post a question like this but... Color choice on the 2008 528i is the topic... I am going to order a new 528i in the next week or two. What are the collective thoughts of group regarding the following two alternatives... Sapphire black metallic with Auburn/Brown leather or Deep Green Metallic with Auburn/Brown leather?

Your comments and/or pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've got the Monaco Blue with beige interior. I've grown to really like the very dark colors. Either of your choices are nice. I'd consider the dark green with Auburn but I might opt for the bamboo trim - it looks great in the pictures I've seen and might complement the Auburn leather just right.

+1 Auburn is a warm color, will go better with green. Blue is another alternative. I am not sure about Black + Auburn.

I like the Blue/Beige combo but that is the exact color scheme of my wife's Audi A4... I think that two of the same is a bit much though.

I am considering the same interior (but with platinum grey or platinum bronze exterior) on a 535i. That interior should be very nice, though a little hot during the summer. Good A/C and those ventilated seats should help a lot.

A few thoughts, fwiw:

1. You might want to play with the Configurator at the Canadian site: www.bmw.ca to get a sense for howh the Natural Brown will look. One thing to keep in mind is that the Natural Brown has fewer linked interior parts of the same colour. As such, the NB will be set against a lot of black interior parts. Depending on how rich the NB leather is, this may or may not look great. I saw a 335i yesterday with the Terra leather and didn't like the fact that this darker shade did not stand out very well from the rest of the black interior. Of course, NB is a bit different than Terra...

2. Tough call on the Black with NB or Green with NB. Both Green and NB are "earthy" colours so may look nice together. Black and Brown doesn't seem a natural fit to me (see #1 above).

3. Always good to pop down to a dealership and look at different colour combinations, even if in other models.

My two cents.

I agree with this, and would add that if you go with the brown, get the anthracite headliner to reduce the number of colors and shades in the interior. Only 2 shades (brown and black) instead of 3 (the gray headliner that is standard).

The new 5 series brochure has a really nice picture of platinum grey. No platinum bronze in the brochure. If I had a scanner, I would post a picture of the car from the brochure. The best I can do is to attach a picture I got off of BMW's UK site of the grey.
The picture in the brochure is nicer than this one.

I spoke to a BMW dealer in RI a week or 2 ago - and he told me that the 08 5-series now has a headliner with matching color to the interior seat color - at least with the cream selection that I was discussing... he mentioned that before it had been gray but now would be matched to the seats.... unless of course you choose the anthracite option. Hope this statement clarifies & doesn't contradict others - if it does probably worth re-confirming with a dealer to be sure....

I don't know about the 08's for sure, but in the 2007s and earlier only the biege interiors had a non-gray headliner standard (they got biege). So the black, gray, and Auburn (now Natural Brown as well, I presume) all had gray headliners standard.

You've got a hardcopy of MY 08 brochure? No hardcopy of 2008 Brochure here at the dealer as of yesterday.
It'll be great if you can scan those, the UK configurator picture just don't look that good.

My dealer has submitted my order for a 535i in Space Grey with Natural Brown interior. The brochure does not show this match as an option. So far, the factory has not rejected the color match. Will they ultimately reject this b efore production (assumed in early May for an early June ED pickup)??? Also, if this sticks, will the head liner be grey? The anthracite may be a better match with the black that is used in the dash and carpet. Any thoughts?

With that combo, I'd definitely get the anthracite headliner. In fact, I like that interior so much that I'm actually thinking about getting black sapphire instead of titanium silver. Natural Brown isn't available with Titanium Silver. By the way, I just test drove a M35x with a very similar combination. It was actually closer to auburn, but it was drop dead gorgeous (except it wasn't a BMW 535).

EDIT:

By the way, according to the brochure, it doesn't look like that is a valid combo (space gray & natural brown).

See the brochure in this link:

I do have a hard copy, and it is different then the one posted here. A few extra pages were added or changed. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner so I am not too sure I can post it. The brochures should be at dealers soon.

I agree, the UK configurator picture is not that great. The picture in the brochure looks gun-color, if that makes sense. On the left page is the exterior of the car, and on the right side is a black interior with light poplar wood. It looks very, very nice. Almost makes me want to get the light wood (but it is a toss up between bamboo and the dark poplar).

So for my wifes' 535xiT we're tossing up either:

1) platinum bronze w/ cream beige and light poplar

2) white with natural brown, anthracite headliner (yes, all except beige have the light gray headliner and pillar trim)

3) white with grey

We saw a 3 series convertible in platinum bronze/cream beige and it looked very nice. No pics of any 5 series in platinum bronze yet? It starts production in June, right?

I am also worried the cream beige is too light.

We're also lamenting the departure of auburn....

PS if it was my car I'd get white with black/anthracite headliner/bamboo.
