no modifications to the car that increase its performance. Only applies to probationary licence holders, usually 18-21yo drivers.

check out www.uucmotorwerks.com look at the RSC36. I have it on my E36. Sounds great. If you hammer it's loud, if you tip toe you can keep it quiet.

I just got a new rear diffuser and a Remus twin 90mm exhaust. I am very happy with the Remus. The noise is not really too loud - nice throaty rumble, and the sound does not intrude into the cabin too much.
I doubt this system would upset a neighbour!

I redid my whole exhaust from the o2 sensor back 2 weeks ago. It all started with taking the cat out to straight pipe which I hated the sound of and it smelled bad at stop. I ended up buying 2 1/2in. piping, Magnaflow DTM muffler 14801, and high flow cat. Took me about 2 days to fab it all up, fit it under the car, weld it, then mount it. Looks good and sounds nice and throaty. I just wanted to get rid of the rice sound from my other Magnaflow muffler 14832 only in the first 2min. of cold start. If anyone wants to attempt a custom DIY job, make sure you have a friend help you. It's no fun at 4am on your back looking like an octopus with a sharpie. Also, get a wire feed welder, stick welding is no fun under a car.
And no, taking the cat off seemed to decrease power on the ass dyno.

you get sounds you don't want by removing the cat... i would not recommend. plus it really doesn't gain you anything. high flow cat would be ideal.
with no cat, you get a rattly metallic tapping noise on heavy acceleration.
magnaflow makes good stuff, but i wouldn't recommend it for the quietest. i redid my whole exhaust on my infiniti (header, magnaflow resonator, and magnaflow muffler). it looks good and sounds good, not obnoxious, but not quiet. i kept teh stock cat on it because the stock unit on that car is known to be better flowing than it needs to be. now i just need to get a better gasket for the head/header junction and it will be set. i did get the biggest res and muffler i could fit on the car, because my old exhaust was super loud and i did not enjoy it. have the previous owner to thank for that...
