Hello all, I have been Mercedes Benz driver for a long period of time now and have always bought MB S class, and am used to driving the S class until recently. And now I want to try out something new; my friend has a BMW 750LI and told me it is a very decent car with the options very closely match to those of the S class.

Now, I want to know is how well is the new 7 series when compared to the S550 or S600 in terms of driving feel, and built quility?

I have recently purchased a 2006 S600 and I am facing all kinds of problems so now I am going to give BMW a try.

If someone could give me inputs, I would greatly appreciate.

If you like Benzes you might not like BMWs, but you could. BMWs are a lot more sportier than Benzes and feel faster.

Talk to malibubimmer in the 6 Series forum or PM him, he used to be a benz man, but he finally came around and started liking BMWs.

Welcome to Bimmerfest

We are all big car enthusiasts here who share a passion for automotive engineering, so you are at the right place

So the debate between merc and bmw is something I don't wanna get into ;)

S600 is Merc's Flagship sedan and its the ultimate luxury vehicle that marque offers, and to match something in that category, BMW has the most gifted of all production sedans the V12 masterpiece, the 760Li ;) With its combination of four-valve technology, Valvetronic, double-Vanos and direct fuel injection, the BMW 760i/Li remains unique in the marketplace:angel:

Now in terms of driving feel, it feels as nimble as a 4 door sports car :D
The 760Li handles astoundingly well for its heft and size
And in terms of performance its not shy too compared to the S600, but being a naturally aspirated V12, it comes around 50hp short then the S600, which is barely noticable in cars like these :dunno:

Luxury is at its finest....:D
All the options you can think off are standard.....
Active Cruise Control, INfrared Night Vision, Rear Fridge:yikes: , Rear Ent. System, Rear powered seats and I coulld go on and on :blah: but its trivial ;)

To spice things up even more you could opt for BMW Individual, which is what we ordered for our 760Li, and this is some of what you can get with BMW Individual:

Special Xirallic paints ( which undergo a 5-coat process and create constantly changing nuances in the finish, giving greater color intensity and dramatic two-tonal effects)

Upgraded Merino leather interior - which feels very similar to what they have in rolls and bentley vehicles

Alcantara Suede HeadLiner

Inidvidual WoodTrims (Piano Finish)

And lots more,
Heres a link, which we referred for our 760Li Individual Options

SO to sum it up, your friend is quite right the 7 Series is very well equipped, and if you are looking to match your current vehicle, the 760 is definitely worth a look, and IMO you will enjoy driving it as much as you would like to be driven in it ;)

Welcome to the MB escapee club. I switched and I like my 750i as much as my MB (when it was running right). It also felt good to go in for an oil change without any "by the way we found or you need"

Yes mine rides a little more firmer and responsive, but I don't have the sport package so I believe with the standard 18" wheels (less stiffer tire sidewalls), one gets closer to a MB like ride. Drive the standard suspension 7 series and see for yourself. By no means are any of the standard 7 Series overly stiff IMO. I tried them all before I decided. Then again my fun car is a Z06 Vette.

Good to see another Cle(ai)rmont person on the forum. Is it Tomato or Tomatoe?

Glad to hear that David...:)

Well since you are in the US, the options are setup a little differently for the 760Li....

A stock 760 in the US is very well appointed as I mentioned earlier and its just some of the more fancy toys that you can add--on:

http://www.bmwusa.com/byo/byohome.htm?Acode=XAB70BMC251A0

We had fully optioned our vehicle when we ordered it and heres a small list:

Rear Climate Control w/CoolBox (Cool option, the fridge is quite convenient :D )

Active Cruise Control (Very Convenient on Long Journeys, for us it was a necessity as we go for long drives)

Rear Side AirBags (Safety :dunno: )

Rear Entertainment Package (Again cool feature and helpful if you have family, keeps guests at the back entertained)

Comfort Access...we weren't a big fan of that option, but its your choice :dunno:

I think the others like night vision wasnt available back then..so its kinda nice you may wanna consider it :dunno:

However if you want to have a unique 7 series, which the 760 already is  but to take things further up a notch, you could like I said earlier, opt for BMW Individual...which will mean a small premium of around $10-12K, but trust me its well worth it for a flagship vehicle....

I know others on this board like 760Li_Fan who couldn't have this package, back when they ordered there 760, because BMW Individual wasn;t available then in the US, but fortunately its available now, so take advantage of it

I can tell you we have no regrets with this vehicle and there is absolutely no compromises with a 760Li, its an amazing vehicle :bigpimp:

Good Luck, Hope this helps :)

I understand you davidsong77. I have a S430 Graphite Designo and a Ruby E430. It has been more than a few times that they have came back and said: you need motor mounts, breaks, etc. But just like anything else, once you get it fixed right it becomes a dream.

But I am in the market for a 750Li, and I am just waiting for the right deal to come along. I drive my friends 7 every now and then. They are both luxury, but BMW is more responsive and they ride different. Although I love MB, and I'm sure you do as well, it seems that you get more for your money. He has window shades(rear and side), 19'' wheels, heat and cooling seats, etc. After getting a couple of packages his car was still a little less than my Designo S. We both got good deals on our cars, but even if we didn't his 7 would cost the same as my S.

So BMW isn't bad at all, it takes some getting used to. The S550 is good, the 750Li is good. I like the S550, but I plan to lease a 750Li for a year before I go and get a S550.

Change can be good, and I am willing to try something new; after all the 7 is a proven product as well.
