View Full Version : ED in May worth $500 more than in August?

I have a dilemma. I plan on ordering a 330i ZHP, and was planning on doing ED in mid August. Something bothers me, however, about getting my MY '03 car in the US in late Sept/early Oct, while knowing only days after that people will be getting MY '04's. So I am considering accelerating the trip and perhaps getting the car in May (I only have those two options due to my fiancee's schedule).

The problem is that due to my BMWCCA membership date, if I get it in May I wont get the $500 in discount, but I will if I get it in August. So my question is, is it worth it to get it in May and lose out on the $500 bucks because hopefully airfare and hotels will be cheaper? Do you think it evens out?

As reference Lufthansa wants $1000 for a ticket in May, but $1600 in August. A travel agent quoted me 900 in August, so I expect their quote for may to be proportionately less (about 600).

I consider the fact that I will make payments earlier unimportant, since I would be driving the car earlier and it allows me to enjoy the car in the US a little more before the car ses it's first winter.

What do you guys think? Would you do it? Feedback is appreciated.

screw the discount. if it's a wash on airfare, and you can do it earlier, why bother just to save $500? Those savings will disappear on airfare and the lower enjoyment of vacationing in a country when everyone is on vacation.

Besides, isn't the rebate determined by US delivery date? That gives you an extra month or two, if that helps.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking too. Plus I just realized that I am not gonna have a set itinerary, so I may get stuck with low vacancy in certain towns/cities in August, while May shoudl make it easier to get a room on any given night.

As far as the discount, I became a member in August 21. So it would take the car 3 months to get to the US from the drop-off date for me to qualify. And I rather it not;) But it still sucks that I can't get it. :banghead:

I'm in the same boat. I joined CCA in August... actually thought I had joined in July, but there was a computer problem, and I ended up ultimately joining in August. I'm still going to get the '04 330cic in May, unless some problem arises which forces me to push my date back.

With a drop off during the third week of May, I figure that I might even have the car stateside in time for July 4th. And, even if it comes a little later, I'll still have part of the summer to put the top down!

The tourist starts after Easter and goes till September for Europe. On top of that Octoberfest is in September. If we go to war, prices might go down because some Americans might not travel. What is $500 anyway when you buy a $40K car?
