too bad you didn't have this in 05... ;)
I got the paperwork on my Z4 that says it's been from Spartanburg, SC to Bremerhaven, Germany to Inchon, (South) Korea (delivered to me) to Oakland (when I moved back to the states).
ALMOST around the world. :bigpimp:
But, I'm bringing my 3.0 this year.

As far as I know, they've had this trophy every year. Terry Kennedy won it one year when he drove his 325XiT out from New York.
Unless you were sitting behind the wheel during the voyage from Korea, drove it off the ship straight to the Fest, then turned around and drove it back on the ship to go home to Korea, that all doesn't count.

What are you talking about? There is no trophy! It's a fictitious prize as far as I know
Didn't Terry complain that he never received a tangible manifestation of the award?

I think I recall Jon handing something out 2 years ago when the Fest was held at Cutter. Maybe it was just some sort of prize? :dunno: On the other hand, I could be losing my mind.

Last year the guy who travelled all the way from Maine was handed the 18" Terry Kennedy Perpetual Trophy.

Okay, as you've noticed, Jon, I'm going to my first Bimmerfest- and yes, I'm a Bimmerfest Virgin. I wish I could drive my Stratus Gray E46 there, but maybe next year as my parting gift to my car before I turn her back to BMW FS for good in June 2008.
Jever, I better meet you, bud. I'm buying you a beer. :drink:

Yes, but I'm talking about Terry, not the guy from Maine. Did Terry ever get a trophy? I got the impression from the following thread that he did not:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136368
In post #11, Terry responded with the "Roll Eyes" smiley in response to Tim's announcement of the prize for furthest traveled in 2006. And in post #13, Brad323i agreed that Terry "got robbed".
And what's a "Perpetual Trophy" anyway? That sounds like a prize that the recipient doesn't actually get to retain? Maybe Terry's prize was to have this award named in his honor!
I'm not yanking your chain Jon, just trying to understand my memory of the events. Kinda like Alberto Gonzales :p

Your recollection is not faulty Clifford. And yes, it was actually a real, large trophy...
:D

Yes you could, and I wish that you would come!
Okay, as you've noticed, Jon, I'm going to my first Bimmerfest- and yes, I'm a Bimmerfest Virgin....
Now I am REALLY stoked -- finally get to meet the man who carries on the legacy in person...

Kurt,
Here's the skinny.
Bimmerfest 2005 (at BMW SB) was the first year that we awarded such a trophy -- in part due to Terry's disappointment that he did not win one the previous year. Last year a trophy was awarded to somebody from Maine. The year before it was from Eastern Canada as I recall...
Terry did not receive a trophy in 2004, nor did anybody ever receive a trophy prior to 2005.
Maybe we should create a FAQ about the furthest travelled award?
:p
Maybe Terry's prize was to have this award named in his honor!
Bingo! But, it's "unofficial"...
:)

Thanks for the info Jon, that clears up my confusion. I was conflating events from 2004 and 2005.
I suppose you could create a FAQ if you want to. As for me, if anybody asks the question again, I'll just refer them to this post

I know Atomic80 from m5board.com drove 1200 miles from Washington in his 997 Turbo! But that's not a bimmer so...(he used to have an E39 M5)
-Furthest by other modes of transportation (plane/train/automobile)?
Propellerhead flew in from Tenessee!
